Strange \"Ratcheting Noise\" In Rear of B2410?

After seeing my B7500, a buddy bought a B2410. This weekend, he questioned me whether or not my B7500 made a noise like his does. When he backs it up, or drives it forward, there seems to be a ratcheting sound in the rear end of his B2410 HST. It is mostly when you start moving, but after that it is hard to tell. He said he tried it without the tractor running, and if the gear selector is in Neutral, and you roll it forward or backward (1-2 feet), this ratchet sound is evident. Now he is wondering if there is a problem. I told him to take it to the dealer where he bought it, but it is a couple of hours each way and a little inconvenient right now as he uses it for his landscape business. Anybody have this noise, or experience it? I guess he could run it and see what happens, but we know where that could lead, eh? Thanks.

Nothing more than a wild guess, but is the differential lock pushed part way in?

Robert,

Most of the "noise" posts in the past associated with Kubotas seem to revolve around loose wheel bolts or something along those lines. If you can reproduce the noise manually rolling the tractor forward or backwards, I'd think that might be a good place to start.

Do a search in the Kubota forums for "noise" and "rear" and you'll see a number of posts regarding this issue.

Good luck.

Re: Strange \"Ratcheting Noise\" In Rear of B2410?

I had a strange creaking noise whenever I would move my L4330... Turned out to be the large bolts that hold the hub to the tire. 2 were missing, 1 loose, and 1 holding everything on. These bolts are not the ones that hold the hub to the axle, these are the ones that are closest to the rims. I don't know if the BX has tires like the L4330, but I would look at the tires!

The B2400 does not make a "ratcheting noise" as a normal course of business. Have your friend lift the rear tires off the ground just enough to lose contact and run the tractor in 2wd to see if the noise is from inside the cases. If the noise is not heard, then it might be the bolt holding the hub to the axle. Make sure the clamp assembly is clean and that the bolt is tight. I think 124 Newtons is the spec for that bolt.

Thanks guys. He checked it out and they were loose. So, I thought I'd better check miine - so I checked the lug nuts and the hub bolts. They were loose too! They were tight enough to need a wrench. I Snugged them up to see, and the noise went away. My torque wrench is too small, so I'll get another one and tighten to spec. Funny thing is when I pull into the barn, the engine noise resonating off the siding was masking the creaking. How about that "Daily" checklist, eh? Thanks again.

Re: Strange \"Ratcheting Noise\" In Rear of B2410?

I posted the same question a while back
Do a search for:

"Wheel noise..errrnt, errrnt...."

The cause is the bolt and nut that attaches the wheel to the axle. It just needs to be tightened.

Exactly right B7500. My 2410 makes the same noise, and that is always the cause.

My B2400 has been making that noise too. I checked the wheel lugs and they seemed to be tight and there didn't seem to be any "play" in the wheel. I'll have to go check that axle bolt.

My problem is in order for me to get to that nut I have to remove the wheel. My tires are filled so the weight is a struggle.
