I found a perfect Olympia Beer can on my property in Oakland CA... it's now sitting on the shelf in the garage...

No more Olympia Beer, Artesians, etc. in Tumwater Washington :-(

Of all places to find one...

When I was in college, the SAME (Society of American Mechanical Engineers) had a cannon chambered for an Oly beer can. They used to take it to football games and fire it loaded with toilet paper. It was simpler era.

What happened to the rifle and sword?

Later,
Dan

We kept it until my father died in the 80's and then my mother sold them to a collector. Don't know for how much but I can say that the sword was still in great condition -- plenty of oil down the metal scabbard, it really shined.

I was driving through the woods when a lovely young lady flagged me down. I stopped way back because I thought there might have been an accident but she motioned me on and it turned out she wanted a ride to her boyfriends house. I dropped her off there and she gave me a hug. A year or so later her photo was in the paper. She'd been arrested in a meth raid.

Shame it was sold.... We had some furniture my grandmother sold that should have stayed in the family. Stuff that had been used by several generations and should have remained in the family. :(

Couldn't agree more. I fought a long and mostly successful battle against the opportunistic vultures in the family who saw our farm and cabin as a big ATM. The place is a time capsule and every building rivals the best farm museums. But they wanted to sell everything from old books on the shelves to light fixtures on the wall. The relatives have essentially gone away [most through divine intervention] so its down to my brother and me so the threat is essentially over.

Sad to say, but in this day and age, never ever give a ride to anyone, ever. With the advent of cell phones, offer to call someone for them, but never let them in your car.

Even 40 years ago, I had a cousin that stopped to help someone with a flat tire. The guy knifed him and stole my cousin's car.

On the news today, there was a story about a young man that went out with a group of friends to help pull a stuck car out of the snow. The car's driver shot him to death.

Its just not worth it. :(

I saw an article about the good samaritan shooting on Yahoo. Very sad.
It seems that the dopers jump from one drug to another trying to find one that's more dangerous.

I'd never give any stranger a ride these days. Too dangerous.

As it turned out, I knew the young lady. Her hair was longer than the last time I'd seen her and probably a different shade so, I didn't recognize her at first. I was never very good with faces.

About 3 months ago, I had a guy show up at my front door with no shoes on (only muddy socks) and no bags- just an old jacket. I asked him where he came from and he said he walked across the fields after spending the night in the woods. I live 5 miles from the nearest "town" which is about 200 ppl. I knew I could either call the police to report suspicious activity (maybe they would come maybe they wouldn't) or get him out of there myslef (without shoes on I couldnt exactly tell him to keep walking). He said he was on his way to a friend's house that lived about 3 miles away- so I had him sit in the front seat and my wife sat in the back with my pistol (she is a navy vet). He was confused (not sure where he was going/where his friend lived) and a little out of it, but didn't smell of alcohol. He was very polite and eventually got us to the right road/house. He even told me his full name when I asked him. After I got home I googled him and saw his mug shot (he did time for drugs). My parents knew of him and said he was harmless- a little slow from all the past drug use. I called the police just to let them know where I picked him up and where I dropped him off (in case he was on the run). I haven't seen him since.

I saw giving him a ride as the quickest way to get him off my property and away. I would have been more hesitant if my wife wouldn't have been armed during the drive.
