Bota BX23
I have a 3pt snowblower I'm going to use on my BX23 this winter. It has earlier lived behind a smaller tractor, but I'm pretty sure it will handle the bx pretty well and vice versa.

How strong bolt is it normal to use? I know it depends on the blower as well, but I'm much more worried about breaking the tractor than the blower.

Think I'll throw in a picture as well. Got my tractor late June and now has put in approx 240 hours. Great machine... Here I am digging out the "garage" that my tractor now is living in.

One more. It's late and I can't sleep /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Took me 5 evenings. I considered it a learner's project. Besides I needed the earth elsewhere.

I have wondered about this too... If your cutter's gearbox is 40hp but your tractor is 30hp wouldn't you use a shear bolt for 30 hp? I drill out my shear bolts (1/4 inch bit into one side past the shear point in a 1/2 inch bolt) and they do shear easier than a bolt with no hole drilled into it. If you drill into both sides then they shear too easily. Maybe I should get aluminum bolts instead of drilling mine out??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Anybody got an idea of the relative strength of an aluminum bolt compared to a grade 2 bolt?

I just go to Lowes anf buy the standard zinc 5/16" x 2 1/2" bolts and dont worry about it. They seem to shear just when they should and not before. I'm using them on a BX2230 PHD.

Good morning Anders,

At least it's morning here. That's an incredible amount of digging and dirt moving you did with your BX23! And, it did not seem to take you that long to do it. Now, about those huge rocks/boulders ........... how did you move and get them stacked like that? Can't believe you did that with the BX23!

Also ...... just out of curiosity .......... how much in US Dollars did you have to pay for your Kubota in Norway?

Lots and lots of digging... And it can handle some pretty big rocks as well if taking your time with it.

Mostly I have been using it for backhoe work. I also got the toothbar with it, can't say I regret that. Very nice add-on to the fel.

But, the stones have been there for over 100 years. Around 40 years ago they tore down the house that was standing on it and filled the whole thing with clay and all other kinds of things they thought would never be dug up again.

At first it was a barn. I did find 4 - 5 horse-shoes. Then I found a lot of shoe soles and an unbelivable amount of bottles, mostly broken. Guess the shoemaker was of the thirsty kind? But it could also have been later on. One thing that got my interest was an old lamp. It was rusted beyond rescue, but now I know what to look for later on.

It was so bad that I had to get my tires filled to avoid further punctures. Sure did cost an arm and a leg over here. I even found a bottle under the foundation for the pipe.

I'm going to make the walls a little bit higher next spring. On top of them I'll make some boxes to have flowers in. A door will also be built. Floor will be concrete. It will be a very nice tractor-shelter when done. And a nicer place for me to sit on top of listening to the grass grow!

Anyway, this house and the area around it is my first "project". I sure could have chosen something easier to start with, but it has lots and lots of potential, so why not? The idea is to bring the house back to the 1880's look outside. I guess I will start on that part in 2 - 3 years time. Until the I'll focus on the outside-area, making lawns and so on. Many, many ideas about what to do.

Pictures anyone? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Aren't we a bit off-topic? Oh well, my fault... I have got a ton of help from this site, both good and bad. After all, I hadn't even seen a BX before I picked it up. Guess who set me on the idea to get one? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif That was the bad part....

Btw, this is an import from the USA. I imported it myself. In other words I have a gray-import BX! The dealers over here couldn't sell me a BX-23. Best I could get was the BX-2200. Nothing wrong with that, but I wanted the hoe...

Price for the BX2200 without anything, not even rops was very near 19000 USD. It made it real easy for me to look across the ocean. Over here they actually give you the option to buy the BX2200 as a 2-wheel drive. The price above was for the 4-wheel drive version.

When the BX set it's wheels at my house it had ended up costing me 22000 USD. Freight and tax is a killer. However, that price included tiller, box-blade and lots of other goodies.

There simply isn't much of a market for sub-compacts over here. No problems to get service and repairs, but try finding a back-blade... Luckily I can import those things from USA at a not too stiff price and still come out saving money.

The dealer here is a bit upset that I chose to import. He treatens to refuse to deal with me as it's an import. Who cares? If my money ain't good enough for him, then I know of others who are more than happy to have them. It would have been different if I was living of a income generated from the tractor.

It was a great moment when I could drive in and have room to turn around. In this picture things are starting to go faster.
