STRIPPED DRAIN PLUG ON MY 3054

I know what I would do if it were my machine.
I would pull the pan and either replace it (depending on cost) or at least get the original pan repaired by someone who knows what they are doing with this type repair.
I wouldn't be taking any chances with my engine over damaged oil plug threads.

( Well, dumb minds must think alike cause I was thinking the same thing. At least remove it to do a good job of repair. But, then I started thinking that my pan doesn't leak now and don't want to cause another problem by disturbing that seal etc. I dunno... still pondering. )

And, if you go this route.. for that matter whichever route you go.. find the correct torque specifications for that bolt. It would ruin your whole day to install a new pan and then strip the bolt again! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

To jimlk3045 Years ago I raced a Alfa Romeo with an aluminum engine and used heli-coils all the time. If you install them with a little lock-tite they work just fine.

Yes, I agree, I also did the heli-coil w/loctite on my 3054. No problems here.

I ended up getting a "piggyback" repair plug from NAPA. Seems to be working so far.
