Stripped hydraulic fitting threads - options?

I apologise to readers who were offended by my use of a "bad" word in several posts. It was thoughtless of me and not intended to be offensive.

A moderator has deleted those posts, which did not contain much germane to the real discussion anyway.

John_Bud, in answer to your (deleted) question, the threads are integral to the elbow and cannot be removed.

I think I am just going to weld on a new fitting and am looking into what that requires.

John_Bud: I don't want to take off the hose until I commit to a repair - I can still get a little use out of the hoe; but I can tell you it is a JIC compression fitting almost totally stripped. I'll attach a close up. 3 good threads remain which might catch Pycoed's coupling.


Pycoed: are you suggesting a repair with the existing fitting -I am not clear? How about JB Weld? (We don't have any experts n my area; it's DIY or the dealer's expensive way.)

Yes - I go along with your old-timer's advice. Remove the hose, then, if there are three completely undamaged threads at the base of the damaged elbow (male), then I'd try a female coupler screwed onto the damaged threads & all the way onto the OK ones. Wipe the threads dry & put some Loctite on them before fitting the coupler. There are Loctite grades for hydraulic seal, others for a permanent fixing, some even with gap filling properties). The other end of the coupler should be male to connect to the existing hose that you removed. Cost will be one coupler plus some Loctite ($10 max assuming your prices are the same as ours - they are usually much cheaper it seems to me) & should take 15 minutes to do. If it doesn't work then at least you still have a coupler & a bottle of Loctite!
