I pulled off my front wheels on my CT335 to drain out the front axle fluid for it's scheduled service, and lo and behold, all 12 lugs (6 per wheel) came off super hard as if the threads were stripped or stretched! Upon further examination it appears that the shoulder of the lug stud protrudes out too far thru the wheel and the lug nut bottoms out on it instead the face of the wheel causing it to distort. Then upon removal, it raises **** with the lug stud causing those threads to be damaged as well:mad: Anyone else experirnced this problem? It appears that the wheel needs a spacer behind it, or different lug nuts or studs may be in order.:confused2: I'm afraid to pull off the rears, but I had better check them.

i didn't have to pull the front to drain the fluid but perhaps I should check before warranty runs out. I pulled the right rear to get off the hydro filter and it was fine

Another interesting item on my front axle fluid change was that according to the manual, it takes 80W90 gear oil, but I drained out what appeared to have been hydrostatic fluid. Sure did look and small like it anyway. I wonder if they use it for break in fluid.

Yes. They use hydrostatic fluid for the break-in, probably at dealer descretion. The front axle also holds more than the manual says too. It took 1.75 gallons to fill mine last time I changed it.

My manuel called for8 qts. but took only 7qts. Actually it was worded 8 qts. each. Don't know what that means, but I drained out 7 qts.(always measure when doubt) and 7 qts. filled 'er back up. BTW after calling my dealer about the lug nut problem and ordering 12 new studs $ 12 new nuts, he asked me if I needed the washers too. Washers I stuttered, what washers? They go on before the lug nuts he explained. Mystery solved! Some bone head, whoever put those front wheels on, left them off.

OK; I went to the dealer and got all new lug nuts, lug studs, and new lock washers (and a new 16mm x 1.5 tap to chase the damaged threads in the hub). Now for the $64,000 question! Which way do the nuts go on? They are a typical tapered acorn style. Seeing how they do not butt up to a female tapered hole, but instead butt up to a washer, I would vote that they go on backwards, tapered side facing out away from the wheel. Can anyone plaese verify this? BTW they are R4 tires if it matters:confused:

hey there z

Mine does have washers. I have not pulled them off to check yet. Wondering if your dealer paid for the parts or did you. Would seem to me an assembly error so not on my nickel.

Yes my dealer did hand them over for free, (a$73 value) however he did decline on reimbursing me for the $30 tap I had to buy or any labor compensation
