Well, I went and did it. I stripped the threads on the transmission housing putting the plug back in for
hydralic oil doing the 50 hours service this weekend. My neighbor is a mechanic and had a tap and die set and put in a new plug, but it still has a slow leak.

At this point, what are my options if any. If the only option is to have the dealer replace the transmission case, what kind of money would I be looking at?

After all this time changing oil.....%$#

In a case like this, I'd drill and tap for a larger sized plug. I'm sure you've a metric thread in there. I'd find the next larger sized equivalent pipe thread and go for that.
It's going to be a messy job, but I'm sure the transmission case price will be very salty.

Is it the gasket thats leaking? Plumbers thread seal might help.

Try any auto parts store.

I don't ever remember seeing one at TSC, but if you have a ACE / Truevalue Hardware, they carry them. Like has already been said, a auto parts store might, if it is a standard plug size for cars.

NAPA or any of the larger auto parts stores carry "oil plug strip kits"... or stop at most "quick lube" stations, they should have an assortment of replacement plugs/sizes...

Also remember to only tighten enough so it does not leak, easy to muscle it down and keep truning til the threads are gone. Good luck
