I stopped at a Hew Holland dealer today to look at a TC23DA and a TC26DA. I told the salesman that I already have a sub-cut and did not want to trade it but I am considering buying a larger tractor. We sat down at his desk and priced out a TC23DA from his manual. TC23DA $13946, R4's $874, 60" mowing deck 914A $2611, freight/setup/dyno test $655...total $18,086.

I said let's go out and take a look at it. As we walked out to the lot I asked him if his customers always pay full list, he looked at me and said "most do". As I looked at the TC23 I asked the salesman why should I buy your NH at full list over a Kubota, JD or Massey and get a discount. He said "well the NH has a battery in the front, thick steel and it's built by Ford. I told him that I don't think Ford has anything to do with NH anymore and he said they're still blue. Great!! He went on to tell me that NH has the best resale of any tractor.

I just shook my head and told him what every salesman loves to hear "I need to think about it, I'll get back to you".

Thick steel /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I loved that one!

Apparently he didn't notice that they switched shades of blue. Ford blue is different than New Holland blue.

But the whole experience makes you wonder why dealerships can't hire people who actually LEARN about what they sell. One of the dealerships I deal with has a sales rep who is actually a farmer and he's great to deal with because he can give a lot of real life advice. The other dealership I deal with has been passed down to the son who grew up in the business and he knows his stuff. Now I did deal with one of his people and that experience lost him a sale . . . and he heard all about that from me when he got back from vacation only to find that I had bought a different brand!

I think it is a pretty sad commentary about many employees today when they can't even take the time to become experts in the products they sell.

But at least you found out that New Holland is built by Ford. We should all be thankful to have learned that today. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Hmmm, thats confusing to me. Battery in front (as opposed to others that have it in the front?), thick steel (but where), built by Ford. Are you sure he's in the right decade?

What about a tip for the guy? Jeez your tight in the wallet. He probably doesn't make much on a list transaction.

Blue paint is expensive ya know. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

It's rampant and not color specific. Wednesday I stopped at the Kubota dealer to pick up a fuel filter for a ZD 18, partsman said yea, it only has one filter. This mower belongs to a friend of mine and I hadn't looked at it before, he just asked me to pick one up for him. When I got there to put it on, there are two filters so while doing some running we stopped at a large NH, Kubota dealer in anothere town, parts man there didn't know that it had two filters either. While there we asked to see the manager to get a price on a B3030 w/cab, 72" MMM and loader. He had never heard of a B3030, kept refering to the L3130 he had out front, he took a # and said he'd call when he got a price together. The first dealer where I got the first filter is where I bought my tractor and I have always thought that since he is also a NH dealer, he just wasn't up on Kubota. Where's it all going to end, it sure is disheartening. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yep, unfortunately, it happens all over and not just in the tractor business. Why should we be surprised? Almost everywhere you go the staff don't have a clue about what they're selling. I see it ALL the time, everywhere.
Is it then surprising that major companies move out of the US rather than pay high wages and get poor employees?

On the flip side, I went shopping for a new vehicle to replace our minivan (yes, we have a minivan!). I stopped by our local Audi, BMW, Ford,Chevy, Lexus, Chrysler, Subaru, Volkswagen, Saab, Nissan, Toyota, Mercedes, Volvo, Etc, auto super mall and talked to a Toyota salesman. He was apparently from India. I wasn't sure what to think after all the complaining folks do about talking to product help from India. He was superb. Knew every answer to my questions.

One day when I was waiting for the service guys at the Subaru dealership to bring my car up front, I was browsing the new Subaru Forresters. Salesman came right up, tried to sell me one. I brushed him off, saying I was happy with my Outback and not ready for new car.

"Outback," he said. "Who makes that?"

Given that Subaru only had three car lines at the time I thought that was pretty pathetic. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As a little blond-haired girl I've had plenty of people try to sell me Big Things With Engines by talking up the paint, so maybe your salesman was just in Blond Girl mode and he had to be rebooted. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think I've mentioned before that in 1988 I stopped at a Ford dealership to look at a 3/4 ton Supercab pickup. A young salesman came out promptly and went into his sales spiel. I asked him which engine it had and he said, "It's a V-8." I said, "Yes, but which one?" And he stood there with a blank look on his face; had no idea that Ford made more than one V-8 engine.

Well heck at least he knew was a blue tractor and not a blue boat......... or did he? I think the price on the mower is way high, I was qouted $2195 for a 60" sidedischarge 914A and am upgrading to a 72" for another $500. Thats including setup.

Bird,
Let's hope these guys are earning strictly commission. That way the problem will weed itself out. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
