Stuck Cylinder Retaining Wire

I managed to get the cap to spin with a large pipe wrench and a t-post driver as a cheater... lol.

However, I gave up on the retaining wire and ended up taking it to the hydraulic shop. They seem to think they can get it out no problem. I'll be sure to ask how they did it. I hate having to do that when the rebuilding process is so easy after that gland nut comes off -- but at a certain point sometimes time is money.

Now if I could just get these steering cylinders off... (the bolt in the knuckle joint is spinning with the castle nut.. ugh)
Appreciate the info and agree with time. I had bought a heavy duty pin spanner but that still didn't break it loose, using 4' cheater and tried hitting with a hand sledge to jar it. Just cannot keep enough force in pin holes while trying to break loose and distorted holes a little, resorted to same method as you shared :) - see pic. The spanner does work well for reassembly and agree easy to rebuild once a part. The challenge I have with my retaining rod/ring cylinders is the cap is basically flush.

On another note, One item I have found to work well, getting the the hard piston ring on, I soak in hot water for a few and use an exhaust pipe expander just enough to slip the ring on.

Sorry, no suggestion for the steering, haven't takled one of those yet

It helps if you heat the piston a bit as well. I like to use a hose clamp (with protection) around the newly installed piston ring to compress it into the groove from it's slightly stretched state. Otherwise, it can hang up when putting it back together.

Never tried an exhaust pipe expander. Good idea.
