Student Loan Debt?

See that in nursing where some come to it early and others much later in life.

One of our RN's trained and worked as BMW factory trained mechanic and later in the US did 12 years as BMW service writer....

He got tired of the job always selling and decided to become.RN at 40...

Worked 20 years mostly trauma and as a flight nurse... said it was the most rewarding...
We have two foresters in my region that believe it or not, used to be RNs. They both went back to school for a forestry degree in their 30s. They said because they enjoy being outdoors and the crazy shifts they had to work as nurses burned them out. Both stated the same reasons. These people are outstanding and would do well in whatever career they choose.

Edit: my hat’s off to people who work in the nursing profession. The hours and workload must be very stressful.

Nursing covers a lot of territory…

Very high stress hands on with long hours to administrative and clinical.

Not unusual to see new grad RN’s take any job to gain experience and later transfer to ER and Trauma and then later in career step back to more mundane with regular hours even being less overtime but no nights and weekends.

A few of our RN’s use GI benefits to complete their studies and others use on the job educational benefits to advance.

We currently have a full time LVN with amazing skill set and 15 years on the job working on her RN on the company dime…

Most RN programs here result in BSN degree but we have excellent nurses with AS degree, Diploma and those that successfully challenged the board especially with corpsman background.

@two_bit_score so 'no restrictions' means you can put a 240 unit apartment complex in? That was my point that most stuff has some level of restriction, like 1 home per 2 acres or no high intensity industrial. I didn't mean homes must be site built, and 2500 sq ft or greater.

Even 25 ft front and 10 ft side lot set backs are a form of restrictions.

Although I think most will agree too much restrictions are bad: I'm not 100% convinced some limited form of land use rules aren't a good thing.
Everything depends on the property and the location.
You said there was restrictions on every property. I just pointed out one example with “no restrictions”.

Getting back to student loan debt, a recent incident really got me going! An ex coworker's son is graduating high school this spring, and I was over at their place for a graduation party last weekend. The boy was accepted at Yale but his folks can't afford it. I heard him say he is going to get student loans to cover the tuition. The cost will likely exceed $87K for the first year and go upwards of $350K for a 4 year degree!

When I asked him how he planned to pay back the loan he said, "I won't have to, they are forgiving student loans". At that point, I was too angry to comment 🤬

It's hard enough to teach our kids the value of money, and the powers that be aren't helping with policies like this!

I don't want to start a flame war here, but I felt obligated to post this. Please keep any responses civil to keep the thread from being deleted!

That's a family message that was missed. Obviously they did not prepare him for the real world.

And tomorrow? A different administration? A different "they"?
Kid isn't thinking.
And even this administration isn’t paying off most loans. Neither of my sons qualify for the very specific loan payback program.

Loans have gotten out of hand, for a while back. Heck, accreditation for a lot of colleges is suspect. Again, for quite sometime. Those issues should have been fixed a while ago, now the current administration kicks in and wants to fix them using the taxpayer. The issues themselves, remain, unaddressed.

Buying votes is easier when you don't fix issues, but throw money borrowed from China at the issue. Fixing issues actually takes responsibility, and who wants to be responsible? It's more palatable to tell people they "deserve" things.
The "solution" we have now, will in effect only exacerbate the problem over time... But people don't care about that, they care about today and only today.
