I think gpick has it right. I replaced one bolt on mine quite a while ago and it was easy to tighten because of the key.
Tried to get it off last fall to replace a broken lock washer, and a whole different story. Heat, 3/4" breaker, 4' pipe and still sheared off the key. I ended up welding a flat bar to the head of the bolt and wedging it against the other one. I was not about to buy the $45 bolt so after grinding off the welds and cleaning it up a little never seize on the threads and the impact finally took over and tightened it up.
How much did they want for the pan? I think mine has a slight bend to it after hitting a hidden chunk of log.
