Thank you. We have some do deal with but land use in that area is uncertain so far.

Look at stump rot chemicals at Lowes or such but think it is potash. I have been told just use regular fertilizer but have only used again think potash. It does cost more. Drill some holes in the stumps and fill the holes. Has worked on some decent size stumps for me in the oak family and possibly some gums.

According to my County Ag. Ext Agent, pure ammonium nitrate will rot down wood fastest. This is what I recommend to my customers who want a good stand of grass after I've done my thing. That and lime to counter the acidity of the chips.

I used to be able to purchase this in bulk at the local fertilizer company years ago. Not sure now with past terrorist stuff.

The quickest most economical way I have found to get the stumps removed is by an excavating company, not anyone related to forestry or logging. Stump grinders wanted between $12 and $15 a stump. An excavator with a 10K front end loader comes in and runs by the hour and it works out to about $6 a stump.

The quickest most economical way I have found to get the stumps removed is by an excavating company, not anyone related to forestry or logging. Stump grinders wanted between $12 and $15 a stump. An excavator with a 10K front end loader comes in and runs by the hour and it works out to about $6 a stump.

And leaves holes everywhere that need to be filled. Is $6 a stump inclueding disposal or leaving them beside the holes. The whole truth would be good to get true comparison.

I don't know about two acres worth of stumps, but if a stump is in my way, I dig out around it,....chainsaw/axe it off about 6 inches below grade then cover it up with dirt. It'll rot in time and leave a depression that needs more dirt after awhile. It's good exercise Murph.

That's two stumps that were close together. .... then one was covered up.

So I'm not sure of the implication of "truth."

Yes it leaves holes to fill, but its being turned into pasture so it gets tilled a couple of times eliminating the holes. We cant have stumps left in the ground cause they rot out leaving holes the horses trip in. No matter what method of stump removal you use, your eventually gonna have a hole to fill. Whether you let it compost, you pull it, or you grind it. The only question is how soon will you have to fill the hole. Pulling them just makes the hole fill a more imminent activity.

As to cost, $6 a stump is to remove and pile. If you have the name of someone who'll remove and haul for $6 a stump I need their name. There's more business than they can do in a lifetime in Black Forest CO. So I pile and burn them.

For truth in comparison the burning part is nearly free.

I've been fighting six acres of planted pine the last property owners logged with my MX and backhoe. Nearly 170 hours this year all dedicated to digging stumps, dissing, taking, dragging, spreading lime. This summer I did have two stump locations turn into small sink holes but overall I think I'm in the dig them out crowd because it's done now and all I need to do from to maintain it now on is mow the grass not worrying about finding fill dirt to level out 700 low spots in my yard every spring:thumbsup:
