Excellent for fish if you stock your lake. The assumption is the lake is 100% on your property? If that is the case, you're good to do whatever you want. I would trim off any really long roots though in the event you have motorized boat on the lake.

I say go for it!1 All your doing is what civilians and local ,state and federal entities do all the time, creating a "reef". From old tires and boats, to old oil rigs. I say make a couple of piles if you can so the fish have a "point A and B" to travel to. 30' is pretty deep, but if your concerned about boating, attach a buoy to each pile.

You really should check with local authorities, university's, state govt., federal govt., and the U.N.

Form a commission, get it funded, schedule hearings, hire contractors to study the impacts on all species and the taste of the water.

Or what the heck, throw 'em in the lake !

Thanks sounds like I'm going for it! I really like the idea of dragging them out on the ice and waiting till spring! Usually it freezes really good but who knows about this year it 57 degrees out today and usually its in the lower 30s! And the lake is 100 percent mine and I just use john boats with trolling motor to fish it so I shouldn't have to worry to much about hitting them! I plan on pressure washing them of before I sink them too! To keep as much dirt as possible!

I'd rope the roots together before you drag them onto the ice so they stay in a clump and not float all over. Maybe thread the rope thru some blocks to weigh them down. Toss one or two in the lake now and see what happens - if they float weign them down.

Why wash them off - that will just make them lighter? 200 stumps is a lot tho - a big pile for sure - maybe make several piles?

Man! There has just got to be a way to use explosives and catapults for this project.

Great idea to put the stumps in the lake.

I just wanted to save the dirt, but you are rite it , it would help them to sink! I don't plan on putting them all in the lake just about 50! I like the catapult idea too!:)

Sounds like a great idea, but I would check with your state fish and game and get their feeling about doing this. Here we have a major problem with stumps and regulations on burning them has tightened up, digging holes for disposal is a no no in our town, and hauling them off is not cheap either. The few I had disappeared and the cover soil was seeded with clover and it is growing nicely. W
