A funny story about Dash. Last year I was down in the creek bottom putting some camo netting on a deer stand. My wife was helping me. Dash was down on the ground. Well, we see a bunch of little hogs coming down the hillside across the creek bottom. Dash follows hand signals so I gestured up the hill and he took off. He nearly catches up with the pigs and chases them out of sight. A split second later, here comes Dash running back towards us looking back over his shoulder with big black momma pig hot on his heels. Once he got to the bottom of the hill she pealed off and went back up to her pigs.

True story. Wife saw the whole thing too. We had a great laugh.

I have some relatives who bear hunt with dogs. Once the dogs hit scent they release the family dog to go to the other dogs. If they are running a deer the family dog does not come back. If it is a bear the family dog comes running back, jumps in the truck and will not come back out.:D .

And this is also a true story.

My wife and I Just got back from Hawaii. One of the things we did there was to go horseback riding in a real cool valley one afternoon. Our guide said he hunts pigs occasionally. He told us his friend just lost a dog to a pig tusk a few weeks before. They often charge the dogs to break the chase, then they run, but this one continued the attack and killed the dog...

They have a couple BIG pig runs a year at the weekend place. There is a huge ranch (10,000-acres++) that lets some of the locals on. Pigs will swim the river, some make it some don't, dogs will follow, some make it, some don't. A dog or 2 is always lost. This year I think 1 pig killed 2 dogs. I never got to see the pig because I had to go home.

When I was in college I killed a hog in Charleston, SC that one crazy deer dog had run down. That pig turned and was having it out with this dog. I think I shot the pig 4 or 5 times before he went down. Now, the shots weren't exactly well placed but I was shooting around the dog. Dog looked a little cut up but was basically unharmed.

I got the sense that if I hadn't been there, the pig would have won. That dog was nuts.
