Ok, so I follow my own advice when going into the garage, I back in and therefore never have to wonder if the rops is up or down. I never considered the consequences of leaving the garage without first checking clearances. Today. I was pulling out, had a carryall on the back with a landscape rake and some shovels tied on in an upright position. While going out I decided to lift the 3pt so that it wouldn't scrape the ground. Dummy me raised it all the way and in the process bent the landscape rake and dented the metal stiffening bracket on the top of my overhead garage door. I guess what applies going in also applies going out. David

The apple tree in the back yard has several nasty scars on one large, nearly horizontal branch from my ROPS. It is way too easy to forget about the ROPS because it's out of sight. The branch is high enough to get my head under with just a slight duck so I mow happily along until the resulting wheelie jogs my memory.
My solution is to fasten a fiberglass fence post to something up front, similar to the poles on the corners of the bumpers of the big trucks. That way, there will be something in front of me as a reminder and a height reference. If the post fits, so will the ROPS. These posts are about 1/2 inch in diameter and will flex a bunch before they break. This is still on the to-do list, so I can't report on its effectiveness, but it sounds workable.
