I don't plan on spending any money on it at this point, but I do plan on disassembling it and cleaning it as per Jbarker's suggestion. If it works, fantastic, if not, Craiglist and $10 here we come.

It has maybe 30 hours on it in its life. Surely its parts are still in good enough condition for someone to make use of it. We got a number of people here who sell rebuilt yard equipment from their porch.

Ignition is the result of two conditions, first adequate compression and then spark. Compression on these little buggers is sometimes hard to evaluate. The compression heats the air- fuel mixture just like a diesel, and the spark pushes it over the flash point.

A process that is not for everyone, but works for me, is to warm the cylinder with a hair dryer before you add fuel and pull the rope. If it starts then it is likely you have worn or broken rings.

I don't know Egon, it could be a reed valve I guess. I'm gonna try cleaning the carb first though... less disassembly involved.
