Sturm Ruger LCR

I prefer the .38 LCR over the .357 LCR. The .38 is a little narrower and lighter. Take off the Hogue grips and put on a Crimson Trace Laser grip and it is lighter yet. Fully loaded with 125 gram .38+P hollow points weighs just under a pound. You'll probably forget you have it on!

For the reasons you cite I too would prefer the 38, but this is what is available at the moment. None of the shops I normally deal with have an LCR in either caliber, and none expect any in the near future. I guarantee it will be loaded with 38, but I realize the frame is still 4 oz heavier.

Try Bud's Gun Shop. They are online, have available units and a search feature to find a FFL near you to designate for delivery. I've made six purchases this year through them - all quite satisfactory. Get 'em while they got 'em.

Thanks for the info.....I didn't know about Bud's. Looks like a lot of browsing time on that website coming up...;)

I bought a LCR in 38 special a few weeks ago. I paid $375. for it NIB. A local dealer had it for that price on Gun Broker and I went there to purchase it. I paid tax....but no shipping or transfer charges. Good deal!

It is the exact same size as the 357 but is 4 oz lighter due to the aluminum vs steel frame. I have shot a variety of ammo in mine and the +P loads make for a pretty stout recoil. I could handle a 357 in this gun...but would not want a heavy diet of these....and heavier loads serve no purpose for SD IMO. In short.....I'm glad I have the 38 special. I have other revolvers for heavier loads.

I put the Crimson trace laser grips on this gun....and I absolutely love these sights / grips. Better (smaller) than the Hogue for concealed carry and still enough to hang onto. Better than the boot grip. I beleive I paid $225 for the CT laser grips from Buds.

I also just put on a XS white dot night front sight.....and this is a big help too. I should be good to go in any light. The front sight was $60.

I also bought a good leather IWB holster....and I am pleased with this set-up. I like the LCR trigger - which has universal acclaim as the best.

With all the extras stated.....I have a pretty fair investment in this gun. But it has been quite fun to shoot and I can get very good shot placement with the laser grips. The laser is the best teaching means for trigger control.....bar none!

Also, If I were a bad guy and someone pointed the laser in my direction....I believe my bad intents would diminish pretty quickly. The laser could end any quarrel.....right now!

The LCR goes bang every time you pull the trigger, its light, compact, and easy to use and easy to carry. A good piece IMO.

Thanks to all. I pulled the trigger (literally and figuratively) on the one available locally. I may well buy another or so in 38 and will definitely be looking around on the Bud's site mentioned earlier. However....that site was 456 on what I bought for 460, plus a minimum of 25 in transfer fee to a local shop, so it appears the price I got was good.

OK, all you LCR owners...what do you use to carry?

If I carried a revolver, it would be the LCR. Fine gun. The extra 4 ounces of the .357 will probably help with recoil. If you're satisfied with the price, go for it. You would have the option of loading it with the .357's if you ever wanted to.

My daily carry is a pistol, and it's the LCP. I carry in my front pocket, and the little pistol just works better for me. I've tried carrying IWB, and I don't like it. I'm a big guy, and I don't want anything else inside my waistband!

I just drop my .38 in a pocket, need to get a pocket holster some day I suppose.

I cannot bring myself to carry a gun if the trigger is not covered....or if there is not a safety. Especially for pocket carry....I like having the trigger covered. It's like having a safety until the gun is drawn IMO.

Also, prevents coins or a chapstick tube....or other item, from jamming the gun or initiating an inadvertent trigger pull.

I should have mentioned that. I don't carry it "naked" either. I use the DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster: LCP 380cal — DeSantis Holster They make one for the LCR as well.
