Buying Advice sub compact or compact tractor?

/ sub compact or compact tractor? #51
I've never done post.holes with a scut. It might be fine. And it would probably depend on the soil, but it has been a.bugger for me on two different properties with 2 different tractors both of which were bigger than a scut.

The first was a 2N but the biggest problem was not having aan independent pto from the lift. The other time was with my current B2620. Buried the auger a few timed. Also buried it with a 45 hp so it might have been the auger... or operator. Lol

The other challenge might be the pond with a scut.

If your mower is in good mechanical shape I agree keep it and get something bigger and heavier like the Kioto or L'S.

But if you want one to do all you.might look at the lighter weight cuts like I have.

I went out the other weekend to look at the new Kioti ck2510 and also looked at the cs2410 again. I'm about 100% sure I will be buying a Kioti but just not sure which one yet.

I've been thinking my chores over and I'm starting to go back towards the cs2410. I'm not going to be doing any big projects for atleast 6-8 years and then I do know people with an excavating company so I could probably work something out for weekend machine time. Realistically I will be mowing 3 acres as my biggest chore and although it's bumpy (used to be corn field then horses with grass) it's all flat land with no hills or brush areas to worry about clearance issues. I figure I can do fence posts without really taxing the machine from what I've seen on youtube and maintain my driveway with a boxblade (only 100' long). I've been watching on youtube also and it looks like I could do some small drainage ditches or paths with the box blade to get rid of standing water in some areas of the field.

Am I wrong to think that this tractor will be big enough for my needs. I figure worst case scenario I keep it for 4 or 5 years and then trade it in on a bigger machine if I feel the need to. That way I can get a tractor this fall, and take care of my more immediate needs then trade up or hire out my bigger project which could be quite some time away. I don't mind loosing a couple grand over 4 or 5 years if it will even be that much?

Anything bigger then a Scut and i'm out of my price range for atleast 2 more years which means a hand shovel and crappy looking yard for that much longer. I know it's only a few thousand to go bigger but with the offset in price with being able to unload my deere and the cs2410 are cheap around here $14,000 with loader and mower without even dealing.

Sorry for rambling on I'm just a detail person and try to get as much of what i'm thinking out as possible. The wife is already sick of hearing about this stuff :)

If you're leaning toward a smaller size tractor, why not consider the LS J2023? Bigger and beefier than the CS2410. A lot more loader capacity (1270lbs) a lot bigger hydro pump, a longer warranty, and almost $2000 cheaper than the Kioti. In the small tractor category, my opinon is LS has something that nobody else can beat.

It sounds like you are thinking the right way. I can't comment on the Kioto line. But the idea of looking at what you need compared to nice to have is a good idea. As I said before many of the 3PH attachments can be rented or bought. So to get a box scraper for a weekend may cost you about $80. But buying one for $800 might make sense if the your driveway is regularly used by F-350's hauling stuff in every day and needs more grooming. Same idea with a tiller; iIf you have a 500 sq ft garden plot -- do you really need a 3PH tiller all year, or for a half hour once a year? The time to rent it, deliver and hook it up will probably be more than the actual use time.

As for having to borrow time from friends for the excavating tools is where you have to decide the BH issue. Over the 10+ years on my property I have several piles of dirt that have been "donated" from neighbors. Most of them have now congealed and been covered by grass and other plants. In other words, I can't just run the FEL on my Max25 into the the lump and then distribute it as desired. I'm going to have to use the BH to break them up first. I also have several other holes I want to dig, like power and water to a workshop; burn pits over the years; pulling fence posts as needed. In addition some of my neighbors have tractors. They always mentioned the backhoe was the thing they always wanted. That also influenced my choice.

There are no LS dealers around me and with the exchange rate would be about the same price.

Also I,m seeing the old new Holland tz25 (about the same tractor as the cs2410) used for $12,000 US with 250+ hours and I'm looking brand new but in a different color for $14,000 Canadian.

Upon thinking more about my post above, If you buy from a dealer, you might ask them to demo it doing post holes. And regarding the pond digging, I guess a pond can be an 8' diameter 1 foot deep or can be 80 feet diameter or more and 10 - 15 feet deep. So I guess it depends on what you are planning. You might want to post what size of pond you are considering. It could make a difference on recommendations.

The Canadian thing may be a problem then. In my area, the LS is a good bit cheaper than the Kioti. $12,200 for the J2023.

LS isn't even in my area.

You've been a member since May 2012. Why are you still in the "Looking" stage. You can't finally buy an LS?

Don't get too hung up on lift specs. I think some are a little more conservative than others. Also some rate at the pin while others are 500mm for the loader and 24'' for the 3PH.
