I just bought a used Koyker KB-60 backhoe.with a 3-point hook up and external HYD pump.it will go on my mahindra 3525 tractor.
My question is do i need it to stay as a 3-point hook up or do i need a sub frame? the tractor has a FEL on it that came with the tractor.
If i have to have a sub frame can i build one.Koyker does not offer one.
Any infomation will be helpful in this matter..Thanks from Ted in Texas

I would say that if it is designed as a 3 point BH you could run it that way but if it were mine I'd be fabricating a subframe and going that route. It will take a lot more abuse from the forces a BH can put of the tractor. My next project is to build a small BH for my tractor and I am going to tie it into the subframe I made for the FEL. There was a recent post about a member that made an awesome subframe for his new BH. Try doing a search and I'm sure you can get some good ideas.

I would suggest (if koyker doesn't make a subframe) that you buy a subframe kit for your tractor by another brand of backhoe (woods, bradco, bush hog), Mount that on the tractor, and then adapt the rear mounting to it, rather than fabricate the whole thing. That way, the bracketry that comes with the kit will already be compatible with the loader mounts, and will funtion as designed, etc... Most backhoes attach to their subframe by bolts through vertical plates. It may be just a matter of drilling a couple holes, and bolting it together from there.

I would also echo the sentiments that haveing a subframe will only have positive results.. no negative ones as far as the tractor is concerned.

Ok sorry to jump in the middle of this thread, but would anybody know if the companies mentioned above make a subframe for a Ford 4000.. I check the Woods website and looked for a manual and couldn't fine anything.
I know contact them and see what they say.. Just figured if someone could point me in the right direction.

Ted, you could consider buying the Mahindra subframe for their hoe and
adapting it.

As for Woods, they prob make more different subframes than anyone but
they cost about $500 for the older ladder style and about $1000 for the
newer 4-pt style. Plus shipping from Illinois. You could wait months for
one, too. Check their very complete online subframe listing.

I am a fan of making subframes and NOT using the 3-pt hitch.

When/ if you ask.. make sure you specify if the 4000 is pre 64 and 4cyl / 65+ and 3 cyl.

In case anyone else is looking for a pre-fabed subframe for 1967 Ford 4000.
Woods =NO, Bradco = NO, Bush Hog = NO.
Cant understand the Tractor is only 40 years old. Other than needing to have the engine rebuilt she's in fine shape. SMIRK .

Guess if I really want one then I'll have to take measurements and have someone fabed one up for me. (I'm not allowed to weld).

If you go to the "Attachment" page that lists all threads, the second thread from the bottom titled " Converted My Backhoe - 3pt to Bradco Subframe" might be of interest to what you want to do.
Hope thi smight help.

Or you could look at how Ford mounted hoes using the FEL structure. There was a set of BH mounts on YTMAG.com in the photo classifieds. I think it was about $475
