Subsoiler

We perhaps need to define "subsoiler" and the difference between it and a cultivator or chisel. I would guess that the five shank cultivator shown in the video above might be capable of penetrating a couple inches without stopping a 30HP tractor in it's tracks in "hard packed soil". To begin with, I doubt that the springs are stiff enough to even allow that much penetration.

Subsoiling, in my mind, would be running a shank to a depth of at least 12" and the horsepower requirement in "hard packed soil" would probably consume all the drawbar pull that typical 30HP compact could provide. The person who mentioned above running a single ripper shank would come closer to defining "subsoiling".
