Successful bandaid fixes for compression loss on small engines

[Again I think Marvel Mystery Oil does clean up things like a dirty engine it is the chlorinated solvent part that concerns me plus it is not labeled for automatic transmission usage.

did i miss it or did someone say to put mmo in a tranny?

We got the old oil out of the Polaris crank case last night and flushed out the bottom of the crankcase which can be seen through the fill hole with diesel until the diesel came out clear as it went in. Then we put on a new NAPA oil filter. After that we put in the Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) and brought up the oil pressure with the rope starter while the spark plug was removed. Then we closed both valves by moving the piston to the bottom of the bore and refilled the bore with MMO and quit fighting with the mosquitoes since we were loosing big time.

NO. Soundguy it was pointing out I like Sea Foam because it has more flushing applications like automatic transmissions UNLIKE MMO.

Most of the time NAPA has Sea Foam TransTune on sale for under $8 a can so I just buy it vs the regular formula. From what I have been able to gather is it the same as regular Sea Foam (both have the same MSDS) except for the red dye like in ATF and has more cleaning power per NAPA store owner who spoke is son of the Sea Foam founder. I take that to mean less alcohol and or pale oil.

After loosing a transmission to a bad solenoid I like to run Sea Foam TransTune for 300 miles before we do a bucket flush.

and it's safe for hyd systems too.. per the manufacturer.

Egon most of the people that has talked to me about using ATF for an engine flush just dump in a quart and let it idle for like 20 minutes then drain down. It is a light weight high detergent oil for sure. Not sure the 3-4 oz (50:1) would be strong enough to do a lot. Since MMO only cost about $8 and Sea Foam only about $4-5 to run per labelled directions full time that works better for my mind then guessing at how to use ATF for an OFF Label usage.

Another option that I have tried and it seemed to work very well with the oil pump pressure relief valve that was sticking OPEN in the 2003 GM 5.3L engine is Mobil 1 High Mileage. One can read its warning on Mobil website. I am convinced it will do what ATF, MMO or Sea Foam will do and expect it is better real world tested too. :)

With all this talk I am convinced if from the get go one only uses something like Rotella Synthetic, Mobil 1 or other brand of synthetic oil AND changes per the manual (not based on oil testing reports which can be misleading) there will NEVER be a reason to run ATF, MMO, Sea Foam, etc in the CRANKCASE.

Yes and that is why most of the time I just buy Sea Foam Transtune. I have use both Transtune and the regular Sea Foam in the back hoe when drying some of the water out of the hydraulics. So far I have found Sea Foam to be safe for all ON label uses. The two quarts of MMO we bought lat week and have in the Polaris engine (NO spark plug and NO gas tank) and are pumping through the engine with the rope or electric starter may be the last MMO we will ever buy. That is not because it does not do what it states it will do because I 'assume' it does. It will not do all that Sea Foam will do, is more expensive to use per the label for IN crankcase usage than Sea Foam PLUS it contains Chlorinated Hydrocarbons which even at one quarter of one percent is more than I desire.

Composition of Marvel Mystery Oil - Bob Is The Oil Guy

This BITOG about Marvel Mystery Oil helped me better than others that I have read. We got the clear tubing in place of the oil cooler on the Polaris tonight and have turned the engine without the spark plug installed for many 20 second bursts. It may just be air but the bright red color of 100% MMO is now hazy. We will keep this up until the head to carb connecting part comes in later this week.

We pumped the MMO 1 minute each morning and evening for 2 weeks using starter with spark plug removed. Looked like new ATF going in and 30K mile used ATF coming. Plan to get tank and carb back on this week.
