This sounds like the easiest idea for my purposes and I already have a torch for soldering stuff, so quite convenient. Do you find it burns the paint and makes fumes or do you grind it first?

Regarding the use of the new terms like re-purposing or whatever by hipsters (is a hipster just a new term for a hippy?) I prefer the older terms like scrounging and recycling, but I tend to find the word used is a bit of an "eyes of the beholder" type of thing. For example I like to use words like economical, environmentally conscious, thrifty, etc to describe myself when I grab a set of bed rails that are waiting by the side of the road for the garbage truck, but my wife just uses "cheap".

Hmmm, shaggy hair, reject fashion norms, predominantly university educated liberal arts types who shun mainstream, pioneers of new fashion trends and social agendas.

Sure sounds like hippies 50 years later. Society has changed some in 50 years so some minor details about the specific form of the rebellion has changed, but other than that they pretty close.


The next time I pick up bed rails from the side of the road I am going to tell my wife that I am a hipster minus the skinny androgenous body type, and then yell "Stick it to the man!" when I toss them into the back of the truck. I still think she is going to just call me cheap though.
