( On the ground clearance issue, the CK's advantage is lost when the BH is mounted, due to the subframe. )

The advantage is not lost. If you measure in inches how low the lowest part hangs, then I suppose you're right, but if you measure how low the lowest damageable part is, it makes a big difference.

If you drive over a stump and drag the BH sub-frame over it, no big deal, but the same action with a sub-cut and you've likely damaged something vital or at least expensive.

What's more, the subframe is two low hanging heavy steel rails. You can drive right through deep dirt with even noticing that you've made two nice furrows with the BH subframe.

I think this is an important distinction to make.

I'd recommend you check out every tractor in this class, each has its advantages, some may or may not be important to you. Aside from quality of dealer, the most important factor to me is ergonomics. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well said Cliff. You're exactly right too. I've done just what you've mentioned, and had no damage to anything as everything else is still 12 inches or higher up. Of course, I've had the bottom of the platform down on mud before, and didn't suffer any damages then either, without the BH on!
I'm certainly not putting down the BX or BXXXX or anything else, they're all great tractors. I just want the poster to realize that there are advantages in getting a larger tractor that he may not think about. There are many members doing awesome work with their BXs, and they're great mowing machines when it comes to MMM use. John

Good points about the subframe, guys. I was thinking more in terms of getting high centered, on, say, a log or rock, etc.

Glad to see my comments weren't taken as CK bashing (they certainly weren't intended to be). Cheers!

I think you will be surprised at the amount of work these "little" tractors can do. I have a JD 2210 and use it quite frequently for dirt work, moving rock, hauling mulch, digging trenches for drain pipe, etc. Go and drive the Kubotas, JD's, and others in this size. They are all good tractors. Find a good dealer and have fun. By the way, they do a better job of mowing than the bigger tractors.

Although the larger tractors definitely have a larger lift capacity on the FEL - the BX FEL capacity is still pretty high. At one point I was trying to figure out exactly how much I could lift with my BX so I loaded up the bucket with weightlifting weights - and I was able to lift 670 pounds to about half the lift height. This was while the toothbar was also attached to the bucket so the real lift capacity to half height is slightly over 700 pounds. The 460 pounds that Kubota rates the BX FEL for is to the maximum lift height.
