You can't go wrong with corn. The problem is, you have 35 acres. That amount of land won't pay for much more than really old 4-row equipment.
I have 30 acres and found it much more profitable and entertaining to rent it out to someone with modern equipment that can till it in an hour, plant a 30,000 population in about an hour with a 24 row planter, spray it in 30 minutes with a 120' sprayer and harvest it with an 8 row corn-head combine, auger wagon, and haul it to market with 3 semi's.
Like you, I would rather do it myself but the modern equipment is so much more efficient.
