Where do I begin.....
There's that date on the calender when fall officially begins. Ignore that.

They claim Labor Day is the last official holiday of summer. Ignore that one too.

We've built a couple fires in the fireplace on cool evenings. That's not it.

There's frost on the hayfield. The old Texaco thermometer on the back porch said 33* when I got up @ 4:45. I just turned on the furnace, cause it's 55* in the house.

That's the one. Gas meter is spinning. Summer is over.

Here we go again

Your are right on when Summer is done. The front hits us Friday and we will go from highs around 80 to about 60. Lows in the 30's. I'm sure the wood stove will be lit this weekend.

Later,
Dan

Yeah, we're close to that also. Light dusting of snow overnight and a light squall on my way in this morning. I expect to get some pressure this evening to turn on the heat! Ironically, we're planning on winterizing the pool this weekend...

Supposed to get into the 20's here tonight. I collected most of the green tomatoes and all the peppers I could find from the garden yesterday evening. Looks like chow-chow making time.

two inches of snow on the yard this morning. Yup- summer is only a memory! the weather guesser said that in 1956 we had a measurable snow in mid-septebmer, so not a record, but it still stinks!

I guess my old cousin Heiki Lunta did an early snow dance for da Yoopers. I'm sure glad I moved a long ways from Lake Superior.

Sheese! I must be dreaming. They're calling for 28 here tonight! Snow flurries for the WV and MD counties just west of us. Maybe Scesnic will be able to get us the promised pictures of him plowing snow while seated backwards on the hood of his tractor.

Not nearly as cold here as some of you guys have it, but it we got a little sleet this morning. It quickly melted, but still a signal that Summer is definitely over.

Winter doesn't get here until a week or two before Christmas. Steph is still running the AC, even though it's 80 to 85 degrees outside during the day and 60 degrees at night. For the next couple months, we'll have the most perfect weather until winter hits. Than it can get down to the teens and the highs will be in the 50's and 60's. Those miserable conditions will last for two months before warming up again.

SUMMER'S GONE by The Kinks

Looking in a window on a rainy day.
Thinking about good things that I just threw away.
Looking in the gutter, watching the trash go flowing by.
Thinking it’s summer, but there are only clouds in the sky.

When I think about what we wasted, makes me sad,
We never appreciated what we had.
Now I’m standing in a doorway with my overcoat on,
It really feels like summer’s gone.
So alone.
Summer’s gone.

It should have been a laugh, it should have been fun,
When I think of all the things that we did last summer.
Now I look back, it seems such a crime,
We couldn’t appreciate it at the time.

Now I’m standing in a doorway, thinking of summers gone by.
It ought to make me happy, but it just makes me want to cry.
I was riding in the car with my mum and dad,
He was drivin’ the car, the kids were drivin’ him mad.
Dad looked at us, then he looked at his wife,
He must have wondered where we all came from.
And then mum said, dad, you know it won’t last for long,
Before you know it, summer’s gone.
So alone.
Summer’s gone.

I really blew it all, when I think it through,
I really lost it all when I lost you.
Now I’m standing in a doorway with water in my shoes,
It really feels like, feels like summers gone.
So alone.
Summer’s gone.
Summer’s gone, so alone.
Summer’s gone.
