Sun Master mower

I picked up a Sun Master Rotary Mower at an auction last week, its a 5 foot mower, very little rust, looks like its been inside most its life.

Two questions:
Any suggested maintenance?
What is the big bar that runs from the top link to behind the spindle? It has a slide setup to it with adjustment holes.

BTW got it for $100...it was the only piece of farm equipment there.

That is a GREAT mower... almost indistructable, I had one and used it hard for over 20 years... KennyV

I just found a Sunmaster 8' pull type rotary mower for $600.

Can't decide if it's worth taking a chance on......

An update on the Sunmaster I found: It a 3 blade heavy PULL TYPE finish mower. Has on center gearbox with belts driving the outer blades. Has a hydraulic lift cylinder to adjust the height of the deck. Front of deck is open across the front edge.

Pretty cool old mower, needs paint pretty bad.

So these were tough mowers?

PARocket, was the one you found a finish mower or a brush mower?

Mine is a brush mower with one blade. I moved in in the garage blew it off and washed it down..looks good. The skids are a little beat up but nothing a little hammer and heat will not fix.

$600 for a 8' mower seems like a great deal..but much more than my 30hp tractor hopes to see.

Man, there's so much I need and money's tight, but I hate to pass up a deal like that.
