If you want serious sunburn get up into the high country on a nice sunny day.

( you folks in the midwest and northeast to hang in there because winter will soon be gone and the dog days of summer will be back with us all. Enjoy the "cool" weather while you can 'cause its gonna be hot soon enough! )

Hi Chris,

I think we all can relate to your "situation". We've all been there at one time or another.

I just wanted to comment that we folks in the midwest may have the cool weather for a good part of the winter, but it doesn't mean we're exempt from the kind of condition you've acquired . When I was in high school, a bunch of us went skiing on a day when we were off from school. It wasn't particularly cold or warm that day - probably in the mid teens with not much wind and a lot of sun. Well, back then I was full of pi_ _ and vinegar, and I thought it was the macho thing to do to stay out all day skiing. The only problem is, I wasn't wearing any sunglasses or goggles and I got my eyes sunburned from the reflection off of the snow. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I didn't even realize how bad it was until I got home. I knew my eyes were kind of scratchy, like when you get some beach sand in them. But when I walked in the door my mother almost fell over dead away. The next thing I know she's taking me to the emergency room. When the doctor started examining me, he asked if I had looked in a mirror at all. I said no, and he said I'd better do it before he covered up my eyes. I looked and the whites of my eyes were almost PURPLE! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif He promptly bandaged both eyes and said I had to wear the bandages for 24 hours, then I had to wear these super dark glasses he gave me for a few days after that. And boy, did my eyes HURT ! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

You can bet that I never go outside without eye protection anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So you see, just cause it's a little cooler doesn't necessarily mean we're any safer. Of course, if we REALLY look at both of our situations, we have to admit that we were both guilty of Operator Head Space and Timing! Right? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hope you feel better in the next few days! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I got a really bad burn last summer and found Solarcaine Aloe Extra Burn Relief to be as good as anything and better than most. It's kind of a green gel and very soothing. Good luck. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The aloe vera gel did not do much for the pain but it cooled the heat and seems to have kept my legs from peeling. I can't say the same for my arms, which I did not even notice were burned. I did not put the gel on my arms and now they look like a snake shedding it's skin. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Oh, well I am off the next couple of days and the sun is shining so I am off to play with my tractor and box blade again... wearing long pants this time! I certainly appreciate the dry weather we have had the past couple of weeks... makes playing in the dirt a lot easier and a lot less messy! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I managed to get a little bit of sunburn yesterday during a beautiful day at Daytona Beach. My wife is a flight attendant and had a fairly long lay over so I went along for a day on the beach and a little seafood for lunch. It hadn't accrued to me that it was Spring break for many of the Northern schools and the beach was just packed with much younger people than we are. A point of interest was a M6800 Kubota with a cab that was using an 8' boxblade to maintain the driving entrances to the beach. At Daytona Beach you can still drive a car on the beach. And HONEST guys, I was only looking at the Kubota while wandering down that beach with 100's of co-eds from around the country. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We believe you . . . . just as much as your wife does. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm convinced. I know the only thing that I would be looking at would be the Kubota! Looking at anything else would create a glare that might burn the eyes. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Pete,

By this summer my house will be built and you and the family can all come by and we'll get sunburnt together. Then we can retreat to the air conditioned confines of my home and fill up on all the po'boys and bbq you can eat, my treat!

Feeling a lot better now, Garry. Juuust a tad itchy and scratchy. Thanks for the well wishes. I am off this weekend and rip rarin' to get outside and spend some more time on my tractor. We have a cool front moving through and gonna have a high of sixty. Time to get back out on the tractor with my shorts on again, right? This time with sunshades and sunscreen! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
