Sunflowers and Deer

I plant lots of food plots on our ranch and one of the ingredients in the mix that I'm using is Sun Flowers they are the larger variety but the deer love em if you do a search on Sun Flowers you'll find a bunch of info on planting them for wildlife although mostly for birds the deer still mow thru them pretty quick. I realize your trying to keep the deer out not feed em but the point is they are a good attractant for them, we also planted some in our garden to harvest the seeds they are behind a 4 wire electric fence but its only 4 feet high and so far this is the second year and its keeping them out as well as the rabbits since the bottom wire is at 6". Electric fence is a good alternative to keeping deer out but if you add a good sized dog to the equation it works 100% without the dog the deer or at leaset a good portion of them will quickly learn how to get around, over or thru it if the attraction is great enough for them.

Went to the farm today. Things are now looking a little better. I'm guessing about a third of the sunflowers have headed out. I guess the deer didn't get to them all, at least not enough to prevent some of them from blooming. Maybe I'll have a good enough survival rate to attract some doves.

The road in front of my place acts as a deer herd thinner. Cars get at least three a year if not more.
My neighbors have a very large garden/orchard area and the only thing I have seen them use is fence on the timber side of the property with white cloth strands tied to the fence. I have not heard them complain about deer damage.
My garden area is surrounded by cyclone fence and so far this has kept all critters, except for a few bugs, away from my plants.
