Super UDT - Not UDT

After paying $110 for a complete workshop manual for the M6800S, I noticed that one of the difference in the workshop manual supplement (but not in the owners manual) was that Only Super UDT was shown for transmission oil - and it said it came from the factory with Super UDT. Since I just unloaded 17 1/2 gallons of Kubota UDT tonight, I kinda wished I had seen that before now.

The local dealer does NOT use Super UDT in any Kubota tractors unless the customer specifically requires it. They do not use it in any of their rental tractors either and DO NOT even stock it in the store, but will order it.

What is the big mystery associated with Super UDT? Has anyone else noticed this in the 2000 year model tractors?

From all indications Kubota was having trouble with owners not warming the tractors up and using them in cold weather immediately on startup. They seemed to be having pump problems due to cavitation. They developed Super UDT to alleviate that problem. It is now recommended for almost all units but none of us know whether it is syn, partial syn or what. A dealer here in N. Ga. recommended it for GST machines especially. It is much higher than UDT. Who knows the true story. This has been talked about on this and other boards many times with no real resolution. I used it on my L4310 GST, about $12.00 per gallon. I guess we just have to use our own judgement. Good luck

In answer to the ongoing question of "What is Super-UDT?", I just purchased a 5 gal container of the oil and noticed that it now states the content description. For those chemical engineers out there, here is the exact content description, "Hydrotreated heavy paraffinic petroleum oil, CAS #64742-54-7; solvent dewaxed heavy paraffinic petroleum oil, CAS #64742-65-0; polybutenyl succinimide/amide borate, CAS #84605-20-9; zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate, CAS #68649-42-3; calcium sulfonate, CAS #61789-86-4; polyalkylmethacrylate, CAS #68459-54-7."

So does it sound like a synthentic blend fluid?

Isn't the price of Super UDT more expensive that Amsoil too?
Please use Amsoil retail for comparison.

However, after thinking about it, I'm not sure that retail is the best comparison. Anybody can become a dealer and get it for considerably less. And I doubt many people pay retail for Super UDT, either. Even if you include the price of dealership, and spread it across a couple pails, the price drops to about $50 per pail.

Greg H posted on 6/19 that it is about $12/gallon so that would be $60 vs $78.40 which I think makes the Amsoil sound like the better deal from my novice viewpoint!

I would venture to guess that you pay less than $60 for 5 gallons with your discount. /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif
