Boy, I got the bx24 bug real bad. It won't go away; going on 1+ years.
I need help to figure out if this "tool" will do the projects I have ahead. I will be building an addition to my home 16'x34' on a 15-25 degree slope and a detached garage on flat ground. I need to maintain about 1/2 mile gravel road including snow removal. I also need to remove several 12-24" tree stumps, and build a driveway for the garage. My greater concern is digging my foundation for the home addition. It is on a hill so I think I can start digging at the high side and dig down about 4 ft deep by the width of the addition. Then I can move the machine to the lower side of the slope and dig into hill to reach the first dig. Once the area is flat I will dig the footers for foundation and prepare for the Mason's. What do you think?

Thanks in advance for any help. This is a great infomative board.

too small. too light. You'll need weight to be effective. For Backhoes, no substitute for reach sometimes.

I agree way too small.

Do you think the bx24 can do the worked described except the foundation dig? The bx24 is at my financial limit with the expense of the addition.

Thanks for the feedback!

Rent a tracked excavator to do the digging. I rented a small one for less than three hundred and dug my garage foundation and removed several trees. Even returned it early for a half day rental and got some of my money back.;)

I'm in the boat with MossRoad
I have a BX23 and the 24 will do all the maintenance and small projects you have (even the stumps It'll just take a while).
For the foundation I would higher it out or rent a track loader or hoe
I had a track loader do my bigger jobs and are still piddling with the smaller ones as time permits.

Depending on how fast you want to get it done, it might be too small. But plenty of foundations have been dug with shovels!

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

24" stump with a tractor that small? I guess it could be done but you'll never pick it up. You might be able to push it somewhere.

Sounds like a pretty aggressive work agenda. Have you considered a larger used tractor and attachments? Might save beating the devil out of a BX24.

Sounds like some considerable fun/seat time no matter what you decide on. Have a ball!

The little tractor will probably dig your foundations eventually but thats really just a one-off job that can't justify the expense. But a lot depends on the ground conditions. Hard, rocky ground can easily stop a lightweight tractor.

So think about the biggest job you have to do regularly and cater for that. I don't have a BX24 and I've never even seen snow but I know that a 1/2 mile is a long way in a little slow tractor. I'm guessing that if you intent to blade a lot of snow out of the way you will need weight and traction. If parking space is not a problem then a larger second hand tractor/backhoe may be a much better idea. You also need to consider the cost of and availability of all the attachments.
