SUPERSTEER

Robert is correct. The Genesis tractors had it first in the mid-90s. I learned about SuperSteer from a New Holland patent attorney who knew that the patent had been awarded but was still a couple of years from the market. The first SuperSteer tractor that I drove was a TN65. I was amazed! I have been longing for a TN-series tractor ever since.

By the way, the patent will soon run out. How long before Deere fires up the PR machine, introduces this feature on their own tractors, and all the green lemmings will believe that Deere invented it?

Kubotasrking, I suspect you're referring to the Kubota BiSpeed turning where the front wheels engage a slightly faster gear to help pull the tractor around when near full lock.
The SuperSteer pivots the front axle at the same time as the wheels steer, to achieve a tight turning circle.

You are right allenr...I wasn't thinking of how it functions (axle vs. wheel speed..)rather, I was thinking of other tractors claiming a tight turning radius. My mistake...

I really like the SS on my TC40D when mowing and for most other jobs out in the open. The SS can make loader work pretty tricky when you are working in close quarters. If you test drive one stop the tractor with the wheels straight ahead and the bucket off of the ground. When you turn the wheel to the right you will see the bucket shift to the left several inches and vise-versa. The shift is because the pivot point for the front axle is not the same as the axle centerline. In an open area you will never notice the shift. When working near a wall or trying the change from the bucket to forks the shifting requires extra concentration so that you don't hit the wall when you think that you are moving away from it.

Another of fords fantastic ideas ....TM's and Genesis made this popular and we used them on large pototo and veg work , Brilliant....but keep em greased ,bushings tend to wear and will throw you around on highway .

I considered Supersteer, but could not convince myself that the mechanism would be durable if there was a lot of loader work over the life of the tractor. SS only adds a few hundred lb to the tractor, and the tractor is slightly longer which weighs something too.

I think NH used to have SS on the TN70 and they don't anymore, now one has to pay the extra dollars for the TN75 plus the SS (for the TN series, SS seems more common on the CUT series seems like).

Supersteer was always an option but never standard on New Holland tractors.

Doesn't the SS option require a different loader than the non-SS models?
One that has less lift capacity due to the lift arms being longer? Not sure how significant this may be...

The lift capacity is essentially the same for the NH version loader (higher and lower, depending on height).

For the current 2007 vintage TN7x series, the loader is 810TL for non-SS, 820TL for SS (and no, the factory doesn't like them to sell an 820TL for non-SS...). 820TL is slightly more carrying capacity (about 50kg), but mainly must be needed to clear the front tires. I forget the Alo numbers, Alo provides better engineering information than NH (for those that don't know, Alo makes the current loaders for NH TN7x series. There are good and bad points, but overall the Alo is designed better IMHO than the predecessor such as 32LA -- but the Alo has a bit lower carrying capacity, and until recently was Quicke (Euro style quick connect) only). AFAICT, the NH and Alo are identical except for color.

Someone else will have to pipe up on CUTs.
