I thought I was at the end of a firewood processor build. I just had logs delivered and was going to fix one little leak and give it a test. The guy who sold me the logs looked over the processor and pointed out that the tank and pump have a 1" outlet/inlet and that the fittings and hoses I'm using are only 3/4". He says it's going to starve the pump of oil and that the supply line should always be larger than the return line (which is the same 3/4 hose). His advice is not to start it again until it's been changed. These fittings and hose is how it was laid out for me at Princess Auto where I bought them. This is the first time I'm building something with hydraulics and don't have a clue what I'm doing (but learning fast). So, who is right? Seems obvious now that if the tank and pump are 1", I shouldn't be restricting it down to 3/4". Princess Auto has also given me several incorrect fittings, I've already had to go back 4 times. There are some pictures at the end of my build thread.

The supply to the pump is usually larger.

Just match up hose size with port size except the pump IN port.

Thanks, guess testing it out is going to get put off again.
