What about a big sign advising all that "This property is under Video Surveillance" and some Dusk to Dawn lighting.. Also A big noisy Watchdog. I saw one sign that read "I do not call 911 police..I call .357 magnum...and you are now in range"

I like watchdogs the best. Some just put a loudspeaker up and play barking sounds... and fire flash bulbs remotely.

I like to sneak up on thieves, carrying my 12 Ga. auto shot gun, and jack a round of number two shot into it just behind the bad guys. then I use my cell phone to call the cops and read the plate number and vehicle description into it. If a perp is carrying, or pulls a gun, then that perp is automatically a dead man, no questions asked, laws or no laws.
My policy is made known in the area and that alone seems to stop it. 16 years ago, I put one round of SSG through a truck radiator in my back lane driveway, at night. That made my point.
No trespassers ever since. Word gets around pretty good...and I have a big noisy dog

But screen your shop windows with heavy mesh anyways, criminals are often lazy and hate making noise as they steal.

Around here prowling by night is a criminal offense, if you can ID the perp, he gets busted and jailed.

When I looked at network cameras 3-4 years ago, Panasonic seemed to have the best model lineup, and they let you setup a private website you can use to monitor the camera from anywhere else in the world as long as you're online. I used to bookmark that site on my iPhone so I could quickly scan recent images from the cam to check on our old house when we were away.

I have not hooked it up at our new house yet, but plan to at some point. The model I got is power over ethernet, and just needs an ethernet cable run to the router and a place to plug in the power port for the ethernet line. So it's real easy to setup. They have wifi models, indoor/outdoor models, etc...

I have no idea what is state of the art now, or if other brands have gotten better. But the Panasonics seemed to be the best when I was shopping 3-4 years ago.

As long as you have power, you can put in a wireless access point to send the pictures from an IP camera. Or use IP over power. I use Amazon.com: TP-LINK TL-PA511 KIT AV500 Powerline Gigabit Adapter Starter Kit, up to 500Mbps: Computers & Accessories to transmit from a barn to the house.

Amazon.com : Dahua IPC-HFW4300S 3MP Eco-Savvy Weatherproof Hi Def IP Security Camera 3.6mm : Camera & Photo this is a nice IP camera, will ftp pics to your computer.

If you go with a game cam look for non emitting infrared LED's - they don't have the red "glow" when they fire the light so it makes it far more covert. Someone mentioned getting license plates - the Reconyx sm750 is a nice cam if you want license plates. It is a professional level game cam (about $600) that is made for getting plates. If I recall it is good up to 40 or more MPH but it does not give you "people" or game photos, it is designed for getting good clear license plate shots.
A simple security system would be helpful - wire with a motion detector or door/window switches hooked to a siren (mount high and non-accessible w/battery backup) - that will alert the neighbors (and you if your home) and make your "visitor" hurry.
Video over IP is a great idea especially since you are in router range. That opens a TON of options. As mentioned, the biggest thing is making sure the video is secure of off site - nothing worse than getting the video stolen.... Depending where you decide to set your cameras I would advise to have some type of marking within the camera view to give you an idea of the persons height (sort of the idea bank and convenience stores use by having the height scale next to the exit door). Of course extra outside lighting will be a benefit - both in deterrence and helping the camera get a better photo/video.
There are also a lot of small GPS systems that are made for tracking eqpt (motorcycles, tractors, etc) that are easily hidden on the machine and can be activated if the item is stolen. Sort of after the fact but helps you get your stuff back and maybe catch the perp.

I had a couple game cams and got pics of burglars. Word passed throughout the whole community that my cameras busted the guys (who were burglarizing the community). So now everyone knows I have cameras, maybe theives will stay away. The courts eventually traded away my case for guiltys in other cases, but they still are on the hook for restitution, provided they get jobs and pay in. Cops solved 6 burglaries in my community and it all started when they started to sing due to my pics.

At my place they broke up my doors, stole generators, chainsaws, 20 gallons gasoline, BBguns, and lots of little things. The left a lot of other things too like chopsaw, motorcycles. My place was wide open for 5 days until I returned from away.

Mid-20s kids, with loser parents.

The camera the took pics shown was "black OPS", which has "invisible night flash", there are no lights on the camera to give away it's location. The other has a red infrared flash and is quite visible at night if you are looking at it. I hid the cameras as best as I could. One in a tree, with carefully placed sticks around it (sticks screwed in place). The other was in a "junkpile" of pallets and scrap wood that I created specifically to hide the camera. Burglar shined light at camera. They apparently didn't see either camera otherwise I'da lost everything.

Here are pics from night before, and doing the deed.

Shining flashlight at my junkpile, directly at the camera.

Going to use my beloved log-pick (taken from another shed that had no cameras) to pound their prybar in.

Got lots more pics of them carrying my stuff to their truck.

Something like this is on my want list: Amazon.com : HCO SG580MB Blackout Invisible GSM Cellular Wireless Scouting Camera : Hunting Game Cameras : Sports & Outdoors

A little pricey but it wont spook the game or criminal and you get the picture sent to your phone. This in combination with a pre-paid sim card would seem like a great solution for game pictures or security.

these are a great concept. recent article from our local paper:

Annandale man charged with stealing hunting camera in Franklin Township | NJ.com

I got two fake cameras on Amazon for maybe 10$. Hopefully that distracts them from the real game camera.
