I have been pondering over some type of security camera or cameras. I have had a few instances of juveniles stealing and littering on my land and I was wondering what type of camera etc that would be an effective deterent. I have looked at the wildlife cameras that detect movement of wild game but they have a flash and that would not be very secretive. What are some good options without spending a small fortune ? I have thought of video surveillance, etc, but whatever I choose would have to be wireless because some of these locations are 1500 to 2000 ft away.

Thank you

I'm afraid that without spending several hundred or quite possibly thousands dollars on wireless, the X-10 systems are only good for up to about 125 ft. and that's with a clear line of sight. Now there are companies that do have systems that broadcast for several miles but you are talking about microwave signals which involve parabolic dishes and FCC licenses.

Have you thought about getting a big, mean old dog and and letting it patrol the area? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Some of the game cams have IR flash - Here is a link to a pretty good site on these game cams. I am looking for the same type of solution and it looks like Recon offers these - check it out

Thanks for the link. I have thought about the wildlife cameras. I hope no ones steals the camera if I get one.

Here is the actual response from the ADT sales person when i asked about the difference between the DVR box they sell/lease as opposed to the server systems seen offered elsewhere:
"You have to be careful-- those computer systems can be hooked up wrong and void the warranty, the voltage problems of having the camera signal and the power on the same wire cause bad pictures and the 9 channel unit from us has a bigger hard drive and doesn't need a monitor to power up cameras." (the last sentence was in response to asking why the base 6 channel system was 2500.00 and the 9 channel system with 6 cameras was 4200.00. The sales person originally told me the 6 channel box was about 900.00 and the 9 channel was 1800.00 just for the box, so Im not sure where the huge jump in system cost came from whis is a red flag to me without a good explanation. The 9 channel doesnt need the monitor either which should save a few dollars. Their estimates are just a figure at the bottom of a page with no detail of individual costs.
