Thanks allot JC. I was in hopes you would post. I put 215's on her for now.
I need to make some rocker panel guards. I can't believe I haven't stumbled upon these before. This is the coolest little vehicle.
I ordered me a new top.($154 shipped). My old top was a two piece and the rear was worn out. The one I bought is a one piece. So I can still use the ****** top also.

You can run 235's if you trim the front bumper braces. If you have any questions, usually they can be answered at Zuwharrie.com
I have lots of spare parts if you need anything. One major thing that will go wrong is a $10 part in the tcase shifter. Factory rubber rots and it will either get hung in nuetral or 4 low. JC

Maybe when it cools off and the grass quits growing so quick. Between my mowing and hogging extra money jobs, and the mandatory overtime, I can't even keep my own grass cut. JC

The Samurai is a great vehicle. I am still working on modding
mine up to be a utility veh with hyd dump.

I helped a friend get a 95 Suzuki Carry 4x4 micro truck (pictured)
just recently. It is imported from Japan and cost him $6K. It is
4x4, water-cooled, RHD, but not street legal and no dump. It
does have locking rear diff. Cheaper and better than a Mule, Gator,
or RTV, IMO. Sweeeet.

Isn't the Geo Tracker almost the same thing?

Is there particular year models to avoid or, or some years better than others?

Is the automatic tranny any good?

yes they are basicly the same thing . i really don'y know about engine wisw but as for as the body they are basicly the same. they are all some really good little fun toys to ride in.

I can't see a turbo (like in the video in tommy's post) doing any good for offroading... Last thing I want in the mud is having to sit there waiting for boost to build up. Supercharger if anything but not a turbo.

There two major differances in the Tracker/Sidekick and the Samurai. After the first couple of years, the Track/Kick came with a big block motor, 1.6. Four door models had a dual overhead cam 1.6 for even more hp. These motors can be swapped into a Samurai easily. That was the good, the bad is the Track/Kicks all have IFS. While it rides good, solid axles are much better for off road. JC

i know what you mean about the solid axles . i don't like irs. it's wimpy to much flexing to me . a good solid rear axle is the best thing plus it's stronger .some will say they need the extra ground clearance they get with the irs but a good driver with the right tires and he can do wonders.

i know he's talking front suspension . it's hard to find a 4x4 with a front solid axle. if i could i would put a solid front axle on my hpx. .i'm not quit sure of the year when they started to faze the solid front axle out. can't you use jeep parts like the axles. i think they still use solid front axles .

1979 was the last year Ford had a solid axle 1/2 ton. 1987 was the last Chevy. 2001 was the last Dodge 1/2 ton. Ford and Dodge still have solid front axle 3/4 ton and bigger. Jeep Wrangler is still solid axle. Even Toyota went to IFS in 1986. I have 1984 Toy axles on my Samurai. They were made by the same company as the Samurai axles, just bigger.

my 2 wheel drive jeep cherrokee has a solid front axle ??go figure . it's a 1995. well it's my sons now i passed it down to him.i guess they put the axle there so it would be easy to upgrade to 4x4 or something i don't know??i never got under there to really look at the axle really close .my mechanic buddy was changing my rear seal on the transmission and told me that i had a solid front axle on my jeep and was wondering why i told him "heck i don't know it came like that"

I agree solid axles are better. They are much tougher.
Look at all the real rock crawlers.
Independent suspension rides better but has a better potential for failure.

Distantsmoke at uorc put tracker axles under his rhino.

JC: do you have lockers on the front or rear of your sammy?

Since I hardly ever drive on the road, I had a friend weld the rear when installing 5.29 gears. The front has an Aussie locker. I have an extra Samurai rear end with a lock-right in it. I would not put a locker in front unless you get power steering. If you ever go with bigger tires, the best money spent is lower gears in the t-case. Out in the yard, in 4low 1st gear, I can get out and walk circles around mine.
