Seems like 90% of the used JD CUTS I see on the market have R4's on them. Trust me, I've gotta have R1's. Anyone know the approximate cost of switching a tractor over from R4's to R1's? I understand both the wheels and the tires must be replaced.

Hate to totally write off the chance at a good deal on a used tractor because the tires aren't what I want. Otherwise, I buy new.

FWIW, if I buy new, I'd probably go with a 990. If I went used, I might be able to swing a 4000TWENTY series, or maybe a 4610/4710.

I purchased a JD2555 with turf tires on it. Kept getting stuck because they don't clean themselves, just sit there spinning on top of the mud. I called the previous owner, telling him to keep an eye out for a set of Ag's for me, as I wanted to run duals to keep from getting stuck. He misunderstood what I meant, and got me 4 agri tires. A friend at work saw them and inquired, so I told the guy and he came up with another pair of Agri tires. The friend sold his tractor in the meantime, (two weeks) so I got all six agri tires plus the two turf tires.
Point is, there are used tires out there in many sizes. Keep an eye out and you might save yourself some money.
Mine are on galvanized wheels made out of 1/2" plate for the centers. They were used on a water sprinkler system and are in pretty good shape.
Don't know about the cost of buying them new, and hope to never have to.
