Hello all,

I am sort of new to the tractor ownership world and need your help. I noticed my tires have been mounted to make the tractor as narrow as possible which causes my sway arms to rub on my tires when pulling an implement. If I flip the tires around to give the sway chains more room to sway will this prevent the sway arms from rubbing on my tires? Note: in the pic it looks like the sway chains are very parallel with the swing arms. Is this normal? Thanks for your help!

David

Do you need your tires in as narrow as possible? otherwise, I'd swap them around to help with the clearance. Otherwise, maybe you just need to snug your chains up a bit more to keep the lower arms out of the tires??

I have tried tightening the chains as much as possible and they still rub on the tires. I have no problem with flipping the tires. I think the tractor came this way for shipping reasons (Maximize number of tractor per shipping container). Do you think flipping the tires will work?

Hi Dave,
As the other poster stated, if you dont need the tires on the narrow setting, I would flip them around ! On my Massey I have them at the wider setting and I get better stability on steeper grades. You shouldnt have any clearance problems with the tires reversed either!

I'll flip them and let you know if it works!

Thanks for your replies!

I am not sure which tractor you have (Please fill out your profile) but, on my YM1700 I turned my rear wheels around and it helps. I also turned around the lower lift arm pins on the brush cutter and box blade. The tolerance is still close but, with the pins turned around you have plenty of room. The down side to turning the pins around is that you have to loosen the sway chains to hook up an implement.

Remeber to swap side to side as well when you turn them out.

You have to loosen the chains, (since they are outside the lower arms), and either reverse the lower pins or use spacers to hold the lower arms more to the inside.

okay, swap side to side must mean left tire on right side and right tire now on left side.

Not quite sure I understand 'normde2001' reply "You have to loosen the chains, (since they are outside the lower arms), and either reverse the lower pins or use spacers to hold the lower arms more to the inside."

I'm not quite sure what you mean by reverse the lower pins. Do you mean swap the verticle stablizer arm pin and the sway chain pin along the lower arm? Or do you mean swap the lower arm and sway chain pin where they attach to the frame of the tractor.

I do appreaciate you comments!

he was talking about turing your 3pt implement pins 'inward'. Some implements have space available to put the pins facing in.. those making an almost parallel stup for your lower lift arms. for some pto powere dimplements this is not suitable.. or if there is an obstruction ont he implement.. or by design that it wouldn't work.. like a plow.. etc. Some cheaper implements have a welded pin and it is not bolted on.. etc.

Things like box blades and scoops tend to work out ok with the pins turned in.

( and yes... once you dish the tires.. swap side to side.. that gives you the wide profile.. and keeps the traction tread int he correct direction.. 0
