I heard one can use Rotella as a substitute for Hydraulic Fluid in Bobcats. In fact, a guy that performs the maintenance on all the heavy equipment for a tree farm uses Rotella in place for Hydraulic Fluid (for years now).

Anyone else done this?

Well, yes, I do, but it is not really "in place of" it is called out (not synthetic but 15/40 oil I believe) to be used in the manual. Bobcat 743.

I would have to grab the manual to get the actual verbage.

It is fairly common in the mower field to run motor oils in the hydraulic pumps and motors. My Exmarks specify 5/50 (I think) Mobil 1 (I am positive) and only Mobil 1.
