Shell ROTELLA® T Synthetic 5W-40 is a fully synthetic, heavy-duty engine oil. It combines outstanding cold-temperature starting and advanced soot-handling capacity. It helps prolong engine life, even in extreme conditions. The proprietary Shell formulation meets virtually every advanced OEM specification.

I just noticed this Rotella T synthetic oil @ WalMart @ $12.83 /gallon. Based on Shell's Rotella past solid reputation... I'm gonna use this in the next few months... based on the odds of having a "nasty" Northeast winter coming due... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Oh great John, Tell us about it now....Right after I finished changing my oil a few days ago! Oh well next time I will make the switch! The price is not bad either for a full synthetic.

Hi Von...

I thought the price was great myself from what everyone else has been paying...

Being a proven name brand doesn't hurt either... /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I, too, just changed the oil in mine, last week. When my existing stock of Rotella T is gone, I'll switch to the synthetic Rotella. Wonder what it goes for at the truck stop?

That's a good price. I have been using Mobil 1 Delvac, but at that price and it's good reputation I think I'll make the switch.

Funny you should post that..... I just picked up 2 gallons Saturday at wally world. My thoughts were switching to one oil that could be used in both the ram 1500 and kubota bx1800. But after a couple of hours of reading the archived "oil wars" posts, I started to rethink its use (5w40 weight) in the bx, especially as far as warranty issues.

My mind (and common sense) tells me that as long as I'm changing oil and filter within time frames, I should not have a problem with the engine that could be caused by lubrication.

I don't think with cooler weather coming 5w40 would be too thin since its a 40 weight with extenders for down to 5.

What does the braintrust think?

I'm using Mobil Delvac 1300 for $5.25 a gallon.

Why pay so much more than that for synthetic? The mineral oil is good for 100 hours and then some, and is still fine when you change it. I don't see the advantage to synthetic oil.

Cold weather starting is one advantage.

Yes Mike I agree with you there. But theconventional Delvac 1300 Super I am using has a pour point of -33 degrees Fahrenheit. That's for the 15W40 oil. That is also 18 degrees colder than the point where conventional Rotella T gels by the way.

Seems to me unless you're talking about colder than 33 below zero then synthetic doesn't have the bragging rights. My unheated garage doesn't get that cold in fact I suspect it never gets colder than 20 degrees above zero.

The point I am trying to make is the newer mineral oils even 15W40 can go very cold and still flow.

Oh well I broke down today while in Wally World and bought the 2 gals of synthetic that John has pictured. I thought of it as a treat for my equipment....you know like when you go for an ice cream cone or something. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
