Both rotella T5 and T6 are great synthetics

T5 is a 10w-30 Semi-synthetic it is a group 3, group 2+, with a small slug of POA Group 5 esters in it, it is an excellent oil you will be pleased with

T6 is a 5w-40 Full synthetic that is group 3, with a decent slug of the POA esters (group 5) in it, more so than the T5.

With either of these oils youll be very pleased in my opinion Rotella is one of the best oils on the market out there for diesels........

yes I run hdeo in both my Jeep inline 6 and Mopar Slant 6, both of which are flat Tappet motors. The problems with flat tappets and zinc (zddp) is more overblown than it really is. The problem has been with flat tappet motors with big cams and high pressures. But obviously there is a lot more shear in a motor like this so A higher shear stable oil (HDEO) is highly recomended......

here are some oil VOA's (virgin oil analysis)
NOT ALL 10w-30's are created equal
The first column is the valvoline synpower 10w-30 this is a regular car oil rather than a heavy duty engine oil (HDEO)
The second column is Rotella t5 (10w-30 synthetic-blend), notice the difference in zddp (zinc and phosphorous) this is for high contact pressures (high shear loading) ie flat tappets and diesels this is the number important to you, also note calcium this is a detergent, this is what most oils use to clean and keep your motor clean. And lastly look at tbn (total base number), this is the oils holding ability to maintain its additive pack over a period of time, higher tbn is a higher ability to withstand extended drains.
The last oil is rotella t 5w-40 this is the full synthetic so as you can see there is a big difference between the hdeo and the standards, most cars today do not require the hdeo, but alas our diesels as well as flat tappet motors can benefit from the added protection of the hdeo.... I can posted other VOA's if anyone has a request............

as you can see the tdt is kind of weak in terms of a hdeo, the mobil 0w-40 stcks up closely with it for just a gas oil the 0w-40 is an excellent oil. But in my opinion neither are that ideal for a hdeo use. The valvoline extreme blue does have a better ad pack with similar values but a much better tbn. For the mobil diehards out there, the 15-50 is much more robust as well as the delvac 1 oil series (mobil Delvac 1, synthetic hdeo)

Look at rotella t6 stacked up against any of the others review its just hard to beat it, its a great oil at a good price, there are many good hdeo out there though, chevron makes excellent (dello) delvac mobil amsoils hdd 5w-30 is great.....
