Synthetics will not make it run cooler.

Would synthetic hyd fluid be better for the transmission in very cold climate when first starting to move? Dyno oils can be pretty thick when cold and there are seals and o-rings in these transmissions.
I agree synthetics are expensive but I wonder if in this case they might be worth the extra expense.

Yes, that's why I mentioned this in my first post in this thread.

Summary: If you live in a cold climate, synthetic oil and hydraulic fluid have some benefit. Easier start in winter, quieter hydraulic system. If you don't live in a cold climate, most people don't think they're worth it, but it's your money, spend it how you want to. Lots of people don't put enough hours on their tractor in a year to make using synthetics all that much more expensive. But this is a VERY subjective discussion, despite the numbers and 'proof' people toss around.

Yes, Synthetics are great choices. Just make sure you get a real one,and not one made from cracked dino. Royal Purple is the one I use. Best I found so far,and I've been using them since the early 80s.

Wait'll you try to use the "Photos" section...i been navigating forums for years, re-read the faq, and it still won't log me into that section to upload photos so I am missing something. Wrote the Admins twice, no response.

Not cold enough here for syn oil to justify expense for me, am hard of hearing so quieter hydraulics won't matter and i don't use syn in the tractors. But I did goof and put syn in the old Ford truck with 150Kmiles and it likes it (grabbed the new Ford's oil jug by mistake). Thought the seals might leak and I'd have to change oil again, but its fine.

Your "300wtby is mo' betta' :)

seems kind of odd that you can edit just about anything, but your username, maybe they could let you change it once, in case you have a mistake like i did, but i guess theres ways around everything,

i have'nt had any problems in the photo section, but i have'nt tried posting any pics. in there either, see what happens.

it was a toss up between 300wtby or 450mar, both much easier to log in with:) 300wtby one..

and depending which brand of synthetic hyd. oil i use its going to be at least 150-200$ proposition for 8 gallons, coming up on that first service, might have to wait till next time for hyd. fluid, would be hard to stomach a 300$ fluid, filter change. when i have visions of box scrapers dancing in my head.......chris

I use a synthetic blend from Texas Refinery Co. in my DK 45. When it's time to change my hydraulic oil I am going to also use TRC's oil.

I just filled my gear tractor xmission with Royal Purple and it made an obvious improvement to the ease of shifting and I believe it is also quieter.

I've been using it in my motorcycle and it also runs cooler by at least 20 degrees F. Been using RP for about the last 7 yrs. in the bike. It's $$ but to make the tractor shift easier, it's got to be better for it.

yeah im leaning towards RP in the engine, can get it localy instead of 40 mile round trip for amsoil. and its only 1.5 gallonsinstead of 8:)

ill have to call about the texas refinery fluids, to see if they are available around me,and pricing, looked at thier web page sounds good, maybe if a blends not to much more than dino, ill give it a try....chris
