Any thoughts on using a synthetic hydro oil in a moderate climate? (Pump life, quieter HST?) I could justify in an extremely cold climate, but are they any "true" advantages?

Truthfully, I have never even heard of synthetic hydraulic oil. Do you have a problem that might justify what the cost would be? I have seen pumps last over 20,000 hours on industrial equipment running regular hydraulic oil changed at the recommended intervals. I would concentrate more on frequent (recommended) fluid changes rather than a synthetic fluid.

I've been using only synthetic hydraulic fluid in our 'Botas for years now.

Fact of the matter is, you get much higher flowrate at ALL tempertures when you use it, not to mention the added improvements and benefits if you have an HST or GST type transmission.

The same 'thoughts' and ""true" advantages" about using synthetic engine oil apply to synthetic hydraulic fluid. Synthetic oil/fluid, no matter where it's used (engine or hydraulic system), provides the same benefits.

We sure don't need yet another thread with people arguing the same endless points about synthetic hydraulic fluid. Endless arguments about synthetic engine oil is more than enough.

Although, new people keep posting questions about synthetic engine oil despite the fact no one has posted any new information in about 10 years. Adding synthetic hydraulic fluid will get the new people's post count up as well as those who usually respond.:D

I paid $875 for 55 gallons, you can do the math.

what if you just need 5 gallons?

55 gallons of standard hydraulic is about $280 around here. You can see how much a 5 gallon pail of hyd. fluid is there and do the math.

what if I dont want to do the math and just wanna buy 5 gallons???

I use Chevron all weather synthetic THF. The 5-gallon container is $78.00 at my local supplier. It DOES flow faster in colder temps and the hydraulics have a slightly quicker response & feel compared to the stock petro fluid that came in my Mahindra....
