Synthetic hydraulic oil

Mobil SHC 500 series is a synthetic hydraulic fluid.

Mobil SHC™ 5 Series

Is this hydraulic fluid or transaxle fluid?

I'm glad I saw your post sixdogs because I've been thinking about doing the same thing to my B7800. did you use the low viscosity hy gard or the regular hygard.

Last time I did my hydro oil change I noticed on the Kubota oil pail that the Kubota sudt met the requirements of john deere spec j20d. So I assumed the oils were equivalent. this was before the advent of sudt2.

Maybe there is a reason why the Kubota oil is a good 30% more expensive than the john deere oil.

I used the regular HyGard since I think the LoVis Hygard is just thinner and not synthetic. Shop around and you can find SUDT2 cheaper. I found in the $85 range.

Find my B7800 thread on using regular HyGard as opposed to SUDT2. I wasted my $$, I feel by using regular dino oil and the synthetic SUDT2 performed much better. On my M6800, I had 5 hours on a fresh trans fill and decided to switch back to SUDT2. The hydraulic shuttle shift was not acting right and after the change was back to normal.

Kubota oil and fluids may be pretty good, but it would be neat to find out who makes it for them. Kubota doesn't blend any oil or fluids. It is all outsourced. Finding out who is doing it and seeing what else they are doing, one might find a very comparable product at a lower cost.

Mobil DTE 26 is 8.5 cSt at 100 degrees C. Mobilfluid 424 is 9.3 cSt at 100 degrees C, not a huge difference. Mobilfluid 424 is a very common hydraulic fluid packaged under many manufacturer's trade names. Using the high quality oils from any major equipment manufacturer would be acceptable. Multipurpose hydraulic fluid from the local discount stores will do but there are risks in that manufacturer oils usually exceed specs while oils from discount farm stores meet specs. Mobil DTE is an oil that exceeds specs.

MHarryE. What's cSt mean?

Thanks for the reply, I think you are right the low viscosity is thinner but probably not synthetic. I think that may be why you had more whining. 85 USD???, kubota wants around 95 CAD for a 5 gallon pail but the JD low viscosity is something like 75$ CAD which is like 55 USD.

For Once stuff is cheaper up in canada. If any of you guys get the Idea to get your fluid up here. fill up before you cross the border because gas is $3.22USD a gallon.

Talked to a amsoil sales guy and said they make something called "20w-50 zero-turn synthetic hydrostatic fluid". Looks like this should be the ticket for what I'm looking for. Not cheap. $12 a quart.

I personally like and use Amsoil products, but I have never heard of anything like what he is describing.

Didn't either. They do have it in their retail catalog #AHFQT.

I changed from Permatran to Amsoil, and did not notice any difference whatsoever.

Being as they are both premium products, and approximately the same viscosity, there isn't any significant difference in the test data when comparing them, with the exception of extreme temperatures.

Any differences noticed, if real, are not primarily due to the fact that one is synthetic, and one isn't, unless it's really hot, or really cold.

Being that synthetic and mineral oils, have to be compatible, the better additives developed for synthetic products, have also benefited the mineral oils.

Which additives a manufacturer chooses, is one thing that can potentially result in differences in performance.

As mentioned, viscosity difference is another.
