getting ready to do my 1st service on my 'new to me' 99 F450 w/ 7.3 PSD.

I'll be using syn oil in her and am wanting opinions on other fluids. I know I can get syn gear oil for the diffy, and POW steer fluid.what else.. tranny fluid? anyone make that? am assuming it will help with heat.. etc.

This truck is my 'long haul' truck for when I go hunt up antiques and drag them home from out of state.. etc.. so it will mostly see highway miles and extended run times.. like 20 and 40 hour straight red eye type trips. she tachs up 2750 rpm to make decent interstate speed due to 4.88 rear end.. so that's why I'm thinking syn rear end lube and engine oil.. etc. She has an added trans cooler and trns temp gauge as well. ( pyrometer too ).

ready for comments...

Yes, synthetic automatic trans fluid is readily available, at a price, of course. I tried the Mobil synthetic for awhile.

Alot of the synthetic trans fluids are universal/multi vehicle types, so they are pretty easy to find. Definately sounds like a good idea to me - I always put synthetics in the drivetrain even if I don't bother for the engine.

I just called the shop that I'm taking it to.

He reccomends the syn trans fluid for anyone doing hauling.. etc , deffinately the rear end oil, and I had already decided ont he engine.. etc.

should I chip for syn pow steer fluid?

it make much of a difference.. or ?

Take a look at the above. Lists what they have that is suitable for your vehicle. I use synthetic for the power steering too but up here it is to limit the nasty pressure spike the power steering sees at a cold start. Blew a pressure switch on the Tundra the first time it was started at -37C. Even though it didn't affect the use of the truck it turned the CEL on until the dealer could get a new, tougher, switch.
That shouldn't be a problem where you are.

I would think benefit of synthetic PS fluid would be a nit, but if you are going to change/flush it anyway and you can find syn PS fluid, why not?

yep.. not alot more $$ to buy a few quarts of the syn ps vs regular.. figure if it helps any.. it should be ok.
