Well, since some have bored in on my choice of words, perhaps my choice was misleading. I was making a comment on my own state of mind, not on the worth or validity of anyone else's ideas. Nor did I mean that the topic is boring or that anyone's individual posts are boring. Obviously, I am reading the thread, as I have all others on this subject.
More wordily, what I was saying is this: Having read all the opinions and views on the oil issue, I have not been convinced that there is any documented or persuasive evidence to depart from the manufacturers recommendations. Nor am I persuaded that any of these oil options will have any noticeable effect on the performance, life or longevity of a diesel tractor. I have reached the same conclusion about auto oil. For years I put synthetic in my Mustang, for no discernable differerence except a diminution of my pocketbook. (Maybe oil formulations make a difference for something like an Indy racing car.)
Where is there any real evidence that any of this makes a perfomance difference for a tractor? Many of those touting supposed differences have a financial interest in selling the touted product. Even under the completely hypothetical scenario that some particular lubricant will extend the life of a diesel engine. what does that mean--that my tractor will last 36 years instead of 35 years? That's a difference which, even if true, is not worth the cost to me. Moreover, it is unlikely that I would own my tractor that long in any event; I'll either die or trade long before that.
So, my quick choice of words was meant to say that, having thought about this issue a lot, I have concluded that I personally am not interested in (bored with) pursuing the chase for the perfect oil because I dont believe there is such a thing. In this case, I believe a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose.
But, hey, I love discussing and arguing over tractor trivia. Go for it.
