synthetic oil

Are you sure? 

Duane - Pretty darn sure ... based on this thread alone, I'd give it about a 99% chance of being correct. I've done a lot of research into this and have yet to find any conclusive evidence that Super UDT is synthetic; it seems to be just a multi-weight dino oil with a hefty price tag.

Granted, it's probably superior to UDT in almost every way, but it's probably inferior to Amsoil (or many other good synthetics) in virtually every way.

My bottom line: I'm switching to Amsoil at my next hydro oil change. (And I bet you can work out the shipping arrangements somehow; things like that just always seem to get done one way or the other). /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Since I'm just reading the manual and don't have the tractor home yet, this struck me odd. You guys mention the manual calling for 10w-30. So does mine. However, it does not say anything about the oil being a diesel rated oil. It just says motor oil, not heavy duty.

Is it possible that the engine tolerances and such are good enough that regular oil will work just fine? It just seems odd that the manual presumes you will use a diesel rated oil when they are so overly picky about everything else.

Boy, several folks that have posted on the Oil and Lube board sure were wrong over the last year or so. One or more of them were even in your referenced post. To bad that discussion didn't start there rather than on the Kuboto forum. Looks like I'm back to considering Amsoil or Chevron. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Look further, I'm pretty sure that someplace the manual will say CF or something close. You should definitely not use regular motor oil. If you use a synthetic, even if one typically designed for automobiles, like Mobil 1, at least it will carry the dual rating. I'd still opt however for a true diesel oil and for me in Michigan, I'm looking at the winter number being down at 5w. The Rotella synthetic brings the best of all three. Multigrade, synthetic, and low winter number.

If I knew that all the sludge was gone from my engine, yes, I'd stick to the Delvac, but that worry is there, that it might plug the screen again.
Another thing, is after having my eighteen wheeler overhauled by Caterpillar, the mechanic put in Caterpillar oil, which is Rotella in a Cat jug- (his words). After break-in, I swtiched to Delvac @ 20k miles, I immedatily noticed the engine would run at a lower RPM when cranked on cold mornings. After warming, it would rev up to normal idle speed. This would occur in a short time, under 5 minutes. I'm wondering if the Delvac multi grade was not actually taking the 15 weight properties of the 15-40 oil. Both oils were the 15-40, by the way, The Rotella would make the engine respond similarly but would idle normally within one minute. I just find this kind of curious, & wonder if anyone else had the same experience.

My original hydraulic oil was what the TC33D had in it when they delivered it. They tried talking me into the thinner NH oil but I went with Amsoil.

I think the Amsoil I put in is the Synthetic Tractor Hydraulic/Transmission Oil SAE 5W-30 (ATH)
Formulated for "All Weather" Performance in Farm and Commercial Equipment. I will have to check my container in my garage.

I have been extremely happy. I have to make this tractor last since I told my wife it was my last one. But, if I do ever trade or sell it. I am sure having Amsoil in it is not going to hurt my deal.

Bob -

Thanks for the info. Sorry, I got my forums mixed up and made the faulty assumption that you had a Kubota. Sounds like you're really doing right by your TC33 with that Amsoil synthetic. It just struck me that yet another reason to go with synthetics in a hydro is the relatively high temperatures that the oil gets up to, often well over 200 F.

Synthetic DIESEL rated oil will give better protection than regular DIESEL oil. I use Amsoil & although pricey am very happy with it. If you go regular DIESEL oil you will need to change more often. Not really a big deal but for the money I spent on my Dynamo Hummm....I don't care.
