T-1 line WaHOOOOOO

   / T-1 line WaHOOOOOO #11
Ejb,

I have a T-1 at work, but am thinking about geting one for home, since I, like Bird & others am way out in the bojacks, and can barely get 28.8.

Who did you get the T-1 through, and if you don't mind my asking, what is the monthly fee? What equipment did you have to purchase? Any other start-up costs?

I was contacted by UUNet a few months ago, and they offered me a burstable T-1 for $500 a month. Probably another $300/month for local charges on top of that. Is this anywhere near what you pay?

Wow, Twinkle Toes, I didn't know anything existed slower than mine./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I nominate Twinkle Toes for the "Swimming with Snowshoes" Award on TBN. Man, it must take a while to wade through the posts at that speed. The industry mags keep saying how "unlimited broadband is just around the corner" --- been saying that for the past 4 years.

Mine says
25.2 kbps
3.1 kybyts/sec
thats not fast, but at least I 'm not the slowest in the world. JIM /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

OK, it is now official, I am totally lost - I do not understand one single word of this post. Compared to this stuff, hydraulic circuits, watts, diesel injectors, power beyond valves draft control, and lots of other stuff I had a hard time understanding on this board were cake /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

39.4 K bytes/sec
I am on a LAN so I have no idea of the equipment on our server

Chip, every time you check, it will vary due to the whims of your ISP's speed, internet speed, connection, and whether or not your neighbor broke wind! Dial-up lines are constantly changing, ISDN lines are much better, DSL Better yet, and T-1 lines are great, but at an average $800 bucks per month line charge, not many people have them at home! Some states are much lower, but then, are they switched lines? Oklahoma (if memory serves me correct) were running around $300 a month, but then distance will play a factor also. From Ft. Leavenworth Ks. to KC, Ks ran $500 for a T-1 line.

Sorry Paul, I'll try to keep my lame attempts at humor more oriented toward this board./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

The Z80 was an early processor from the bad old days. it was an 8 bit processor that could run at the blazing speed of 4.5 Mhz. It kicked butt on the 8080 which I guess started this whole mess. CPM is Control Program for Microprocessors, it was a popular operating system for 8 bit machines, it was the predecessor to MSDOS (16 bit operating system) which evolved into Bill Gate's fortune in Windows and on.

As far as a T-1 line is concerned, I think that is a translucent line made by Berkley. They claim it can't be seen by fish. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I may have lost the good humor contest but I think I won the slowest link on the board. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
