Here's a clue...On Internet forums a "signature" is NOT a profile...doh!
Users often put quotations in their signature to relate a character trait or a general philosophy they relate to...it is NOT assuming the identity of the quoted...DOH!

Ooohhh, that spot tender? :)

No just trying to educate the ignorant...

And all this time I thought it was from a bad case of diaper rash and pms. :confused3:

I refuse to tell anyone where I live including the government, just so you know............:newhere:

I have a web world. I have a real world. Never the twain shall meet. Other than banking and commercial shopping sites, NO ONE in either world knows anything about me in the other. I do not use my name or location on the web anywhere that it isn't required. That includes FB. I've never even been to that site. I have a real world neighbor that goes there and they found something they knew I wanted. They told me about it by phones and I contacted the seller, another neighbor to buy the item.

My tractor dealer knows about this site, but they do not know my ID here. If they post here, I don't know theirs either.

 Likewise...any site that does not even allow browsing without registering can shove it...

What really sucks is a majority of the time it does not matter if a person does not use a business's etc. web interface to do business...even if you do business with a hard line telephone or snail mail...said business still puts your information in their internet accessible databases...!

I'm just guessing here but I'd say that's the tenth time you have directly insulted me. You even changed your signature because of me. I'm not sure I understand your infatuation with me??? You've directly insulted my Son. You've directly insulted my Grandson. I simply don't understand this attraction??? Maybe you can explain?? Thanks.

I think you think not divulging your location gives you a sense of aloofness. Is that a word? :)

So I put you with Diggin It. Your responses often lack merit because of unknown location.

See above movie line. :D

I guess that would make me aloof, also. I don't see the need to put out on a public forum where I live and/or everything that I have. Furthermore, everything I've read and learned about internet safety indicates the same, it's pretty scary how much can be gleaned by somebody with the right (wrong) program, a little time, and the intent of nefarious activity.
I knew that would require explaining for you. Let's see if I can simplify it for you......

Assume you don't know my location....

"I'm looking to purchase a used 50hp 4wd gear drive low hours JD tractor. What would be a reasonable cost to start with?
That would be a good time to also include your approximate location. Anybody reading your post would then know without even the need to look at your profile. Even better, you could give the approximate region where you are willing to travel to.

I was on FB for a while, until I realized what a data mining site it really is. (Also pretty boring place.) They have a feature where, using the location feature on your smart phone you can post where you are. They live in Mass but have a camp on the coast of Maine. She would post "we are at this restaurant in Bar Harbor"... meanwhile everybody knows where their house is, we've all seen pictures of her husband's M-F tractor. Lt40 sawmill, her Camaro which is 200 miles from them in the garage... to me it's just a way of saying "Hey thieves, we're not home! Open House, come help yourselves!"

I totally get the idea that some might not want to disclose their location. No problem with that at all. Until they start claiming knowledge of the discussion at hand without divulging that information. Then I take the stand of several on this thread.

If you don't want to divulge your location when it's relevant then quit posting in that discussion.

The problem comes when the paranoid expect everyone else to be so. I don't hide my identity or location. Several times I have posted enough information about my location that you can easily locate me. If you so desire, come on over. I'll deal with your intent at that time. But I refuse to assume you all mean harm. Because you don't. Only the paranoid live in that world. I refuse to.

All well stated.

FYI...it's never been meant as an insult...being ignorant is nothing to be ashamed of...we are all ignorant of many things...it simply means that one is "not aware" lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular

When I see something being done wrong because of ignorance I try to enlighten...sorry you misunderstand my intent...

BTW...it's only the second or third time...or are you poor at math too?:D
