Hey guys. I am looking for suggestions for an attachment I can bolt to my FEL that will drive t-posts. We've got enough posts to give us a heart attack apiece, so I'm hoping to mechanize the process. I'm not keen on buying a standalone driver, since small engines seem to hate me. Any ideas? Thanks.

My post driver has an attachment to drive t posts. Runs off 1 remote and hooks on the 3 point. Mine is a kencove hd 8. Same as a shaver h 8. Works great.

I tried using the FEL to push in T posts, but it was hit or miss on going in straight, or not. I also bent a few of them. What I hated the worse was having to have a helper, and the constant back and forth to get just one T post in the ground.

I just finished fencing in a 27 acre pasture with T posts every ten feet, and wood posts every 100 feet or less. For me, the Mansaver T post pounder was a game changer. I power it from my Honda generator, so that's easy. Honda always starts real easy. Then I use a pancake air compressor to provide air pressure for the Mansaver to do its thing. Even in the hardest soil, in the middle of August, it always gets them in the ground. It might take half an hour, but it never gets tired!!!

Thanks for the link. I had thought about fencing in my pasture but have been dreading the idea of the fencing. My pounder would bend them too easily. Reasonable costs. I already own a gen & air compressor.

I made mine, it's all stainless steel. It's 36" long with a 3" SST plug in the end of 3" schedule 80 SST pipe, and weighs 23#. I never bothered to paint mine, just stamped my name on it with metal stamps.
Using things like this contributes to my overall health and stamina IMO. Although, at 82 I admit driving over 3 back to back tires me out.

If the soil is good (no bedrock) then all you have to do is get the helper to place the T-post and hold it straight while the operator gently pushes it down into the ground with the loader bucket. As long as the operator is experienced and the helper isn’t standing under the bucket there shouldn’t be any danger and it goes very quickly.

I have used my big Milwaukee hammer drill with an old coring bit to drive t-posts. There are some adapters to do it a different way

Is the one you made the weighted one that you manually lift and pull down/let fall? Or hydraulic/pneumatic?

They also sell hand held hydraulic t post drivers, that can feed off of tractor hydraulics. Me, im cheep, dont want to spend the $$$. I simply only do my fencing after spring thaw. Real easy to drill fence posts and drive t posts that time of the year.

Here is a company that makes them.

I think it would have all the problems Eddie points out. I have heard good things about the Mansaver pneumatic drivers. I still use a hand driver but really hate it, just don't do enough posts to justify something nicer.

I have a Danuser T3 post driver. Mount mine to my excavator bucket with 2, 1/2" bolts and go to work. It is designed for up to 3" diameter material. I made and adapter to drive 4 1/2" OD pipe for corners and gate posts. I generally drive 2 3/8 and 2 7/8 drill pipe. Very reliable and will drive anything that will fit in the socket. With pilot controlled hydraulics it is easy to be gentle if one needs to be. I believe it was designed to drive T posts.

X2 on the Danuser T3. Opening will accept up to 3 1/4” - 3 1/2”. We drive 2 3/8 galv round and wing channels. Running it on Mini-Ex. I believe they offer a T post attachment for it.

It seems that the op hasn't been back since his post.
I also find like @EddieWalker that you better have soft stone free soil to push a T post in the ground. They seem to be made out the the worst chinesium metal available.
His solution is a good one especially for working alone. I've had good success with a 3 point driver but you will sacrifice some of them.
The rapid small stroke of an air or hydraulic driver that allows 2-3' of the stake to be "inside" of the driver and provides some control by the operator and protection from bending the stake.

I believe its Vevor has a 4 stroke gas tee post pounder for something like $300. It's heavy, but if you use the tractor to carry the posts, and have the bucket/forks about 18-24" off the ground, stand on that, and that let's you avoid having to lift the driver so high above your shoulders.

I assume we are talking 6/6.5 ft tee posts, not 7/7.5 ft?

I cut a section of pipe down to the length of what the T-post will be above ground, that keeps the post from bending and me from guessing the correct depth.

It's definitely much quicker with a helper, but I've set quite a few posts by myself that way.

That’s pretty neat

I also have a T3 that I use on the front of my tractor. I used it 95% of the time by myself to drive hundreds of t posts.

The way I do it is… I’ll start the t posts in the ground just enough for them to stand and then use the tractor and T3 to finish driving to depth. Of course you won’t do have to do that with a helper to hold them.

If I started the posts plumb I usually kept them plumb with the T3. After they’re all driven I walked the line and checked plumb with a level and pushed them plumb if I needed to.
