Howdy!

I have a 2010 T1520 with low hours. A buddy was using it to help move firewood and it suddenly died while in use. Now it will not start. I checked the seat safety switch (using a small piece of wire to bypass), I also checked the brake safety switch, and shift safety switch. The battery has 12V (tested at the battery terminals) and there is no sign of corrosion. I checked the motor oil and it is ok. However, the transmission oil is very low.

While in the driver's seat, I put the shift lever in neutral, stepped on the clutch, and turn the key. The dashboard lights come on but nothing else. The lights all work and I could not find any loose wires or broken connections. The fuses in the fuse box on the firewall all look good too.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.:(

How about the fuel? or the fuel filter?

It is full of fresh fuel. I ruled out fuel only because I do not even hear a clicking sound when I try to start it. I am wondering if the low transmission fluid has something to do with it though. There are some wires leading to the transmission fluid tank with some sort of sensor thing on it. I am wondering if the tractor is sensing low transmission fluid?

Low hydro. trans. fluid should just give a lite on the dash, not shut the machine down.??
IF U REALLY REALLY need to move the machine..?? U could jump the shut off solenoid on the inj. pump,{run a hot + 12v from the battery} provided its a 1 or 2 wire sol.
THEN jump the starter..
That might give u a better working condition..{shop/garage}
I hope that helps a little..
BUT BE AWARE.. The tractor MIGHT BE IN GEAR.. & when u jump the starter, the machine might roll right over u..

I just went out to the tractor this morning to try starting it again. I should also point out that the glow plug light does not come on when I turn the key. The tractor has 264.5 hours on it.

I was thinking clutch switch until you said the glow timer light didn't work. Could be ignition switch, a relay, or  failed safety controller. No click says electrical. Be sure the PTO switch/lever wasn't bumped to 'engaged' .

btw, I have NH repair manuals for T1520 and 110TL and I'm not afraid to use them. Wiring diagrams are pretty nice, but there are several pages I'd want to scan for you to have them all. Starting, glow plug, lighting, safety controller circuits each have their own page.

A quick look at the book lists the following 'safety switches' that report to the safety controller, any of which can prevent starter from engaging. There will be relays to check too, if the connections and switches are ok.
- Transmission Range
- Rear PTO
- Mid PTO
- Seat
- Clutch
- Park brake

And anymore, switches can be 2 pole or 2-throw (3-4 wires), meaning disconnecting a seat switch isn't necessarily as simple as it once was. NO and NC functions all have to be checked when testing them. Some of these switche being under the op platform hints that clutch, park brake or mid-PTO switch wire may have been bumped loose by a prominent twig in the tulies. Could it be so?

How 'bout we start with those wires underneath that were there to be snagged somehow in everyday use.

look for safety switches messed up or with a wire fallen off

Thanks guys! I checked all of the switches and wires under the tractor last night. I will go out and recheck. Not sure why the glow plug light (on the dashboard) is not lighting.

What are those wires going to the transmission fill area leading to? A sensor? What does the sensor do? There are no dashboard lights on the T1520 for low transmission fluid.

More switches than sensors. Range and PTO switches on left case just ahead of LR axle, mid PTO switch easily seen looking from the rear and above L axle. Coolant temp and air flow restriction warning sensors have gauge and dash light. Neither will prevent. We might need to look at the ends of wires more than the routing, unless we see where something snagged and pulled 'em out.

The safety controller can shut things down, prevent restarts, etc, but will beep first. Ask friend if he heard that just before it quit.

Your eyes and best description are the most we have to go on. IMO, that's a lot if we cover the right steps. What do we do next?

btw, My T1520 is a '13, my manuals are 'first printing' 5/07. jon
